COMMEMORATING the Port Washington Garden Club upon
the occasion of celebrating its 100th Anniversary on
March 3, 2024
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those organizations of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavor have been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in
floral design and the promotion of civic and environmental
responsibility in this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the Port Washington Garden Club upon the occasion of
celebrating its 100th Anniversary, to be celebrated at their reception
on Sunday, March 3, 2024; and
WHEREAS, With a mission to beautify the Town of Port Washington, New
York, the Port Washington Garden Club is a non-profit organization that
ensures public spaces are properly maintained with foliage and tasteful
decorations; and
WHEREAS, Recruiting with the purpose of promoting members to
collaborate to find the best solution for the upkeep of the community,
the Port Washington Garden Club facilitates the study and performance of
practical gardening and teaches the art of flower arranging; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to brightening the community with lovely plantings,
the Port Washington Garden Club aims to maintain the highest standards
in all branches of horticulture; to encourage civic plantings and any
other activity pertaining to business that is of specific interest to
the garden club; and lastly, to aid in the conservation of our natural
resources; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Port Washington Garden Club is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its Executive Board: President, Pat
DeBari; Vice President, Rita O'Leary; Recording Secretary, Betty
Affisco; Treasurer, Dolores Ilardo; Corresponding Secretary, Penny
Moroney; Program Coordinator, Kathy Fico; Civic Activities, Irene Wood;
Ways & Means, Anna Deriu; Membership, Tertia Wallace; and
Members-At-Large Barbara Kaim and Hedwig Schapfel, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the Club and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, the Port
Washington Garden Club may look back with pride and hold true of purpose
in its commitment to serving the Port Washington community and beyond;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Port Washington Garden Club upon the occasion of
celebrating its 100th Anniversary on March 3, 2024, noting the propriety
of its goals, the constancy of its commitment, and the significance of
its accomplishments in improving its community now and in the future;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Pat DeBari, President of the Port Washington Garden Club.
