Senate Resolution No. 1847

COMMENDING the Amherst Gaelic League upon the
occasion of celebrating its 50th Anniversary on
March 8, 2024
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Amherst Gaelic League upon the occasion of celebrating its
50th Anniversary on Friday, March 8, 2024; and
WHEREAS, The Mission Statement and objective of the Amherst Gaelic
League (AGL) is to be of service to the needy; to exchange and promote a
spirit of good will and benevolence among its members; to develop
educational programs, entertainment, and recreational activities based
on Irish tradition, history, and folklore; and to promote and foster
among its members the preservation, appreciation, and understanding of
Irish history and folklore in all its form; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its past five decades, the Amherst Gaelic League
has contributed more than $300,000 to bolster numerous local
organizations that appeal to its mission; and
WHEREAS, Included in the extensive list of neighboring organizations
and programs which have benefitted from the generous support provided by
the Amherst Gaelic League are: Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Refugee
Resettlement Program; Youth Team which is dedicated to the promotion and
preservation of Gaelic Games and Irish culture in the community; Western
New York Irish Famine Memorial; Buffalo Naval & Military Park; Amherst
Police Foundation; Children's Hospital's lung unit; and Ronald McDonald
House; and
WHEREAS, Under the capable leadership of current President Michael
Dolan, the Amherst Gaelic League has promoted the study and
understanding of Irish history and the causes and results of the
emigration of persons from Ireland to the United States of America and
the division of Ireland; and
WHEREAS, The Amherst Gaelic League also encourages and supports the
Irish citizens' study and understanding of the principles of American
democracy and way of life through exchange programs which assist the
people of Ireland through the utilization of teaching foundations,
scholarships, correspondence and other written materials, and visits to
the United States in addition to American citizens' journeys to Ireland;
and
WHEREAS, The success of the Amherst Gaelic League is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Amherst Gaelic League, upon the occasion of celebrating its
50th Anniversary, and to honor its members, past and present, who have
labored so conscientiously to secure and improve the quality of life for
the citizens of the community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael Dolan, President, the Amherst Gaelic League.
