MOURNING the death of Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson,
dedicated family man, distinguished citizen, and
devoted member of his community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson was
one such individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson,
noting the significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson was born in Brooklyn, New York,
on August 20, 1973, to Khadijah and Adeyemi Bandele; he died on Sunday,
February 18, 2024, at the age of 50; and
WHEREAS, As a child of The East family, an organization and meeting
place where Black people from all walks of life could learn about the
African diaspora and its history and culture beyond slavery, Coujoe
Ojare Bandele Marson was born into a proud, loving, and caring
community; he reflected those attributes from birth until his passing;
and
WHEREAS, Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson was an exemplary and
responsible brother to his siblings, even the older ones; he enjoyed
traveling, cooking, teaching, entertaining and spending time at
amusement parks; most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family;
always full of laughter, smiles and jokes, he truly valued family above
all; and
WHEREAS, Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson and the former Sharon Brown
were united in marriage on August 20, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson worked in several professions
throughout his life; he received his teaching certificate and
particularly enjoyed his time teaching young children at KinderCare,
where he was affectionately known as Mr. C; similarly, he was widely
respected and loved at the other jobs he took on at Childcare Academy
and Project Home; and
WHEREAS, The consummate protector, Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson also
worked as a security guard and took this work very seriously; he will
always be remembered for his selflessness, loving smile, and the genuine
care he exhibited for his family, community and friends; and
WHEREAS, Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson is survived by his loving wife,
Sharon Marson; three children, Carron Marson, Shakima Pegues and Sharea
Jackson; mother-in-law, Roslyn McClain; two grandchildren, Shamel and
Jayquan Jackson; his parents, Khadijah Bandele, Adeyemi Bandele (Ionis
Riley) and Safiya Bandele; and siblings, Adaleta Bandele (Hadithi Orr),
Maia Bandele Marson, Lumumba Bandele (Monifa Bandele), Atiba Marson
Quinones, Kobie Bandele Marson, Gamba Bandele Marson, Nwandu Bandele
Marson (Kgomotso Marson), Dafina Mccleod-Freeman, Olomide McKoy
Quinones, Omi McKoy Quinones, Obataye Mckoy Quinones, Damon Vanzant; as
well as a host of cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and extended
family; and
WHEREAS, Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson's infinite selflessness and
benevolence will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories;
his insight and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light
and hope to the countless lives he touched; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson leaves behind a legacy which
will long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting
memory to all who were privileged to have known and loved such an
amazing man; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the grateful
tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson, and to express its
deepest condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Coujoe Ojare Bandele Marson.
