CONGRATULATING Liam Carlin of Burnt Hills-Ballston
Lake High School upon the occasion of capturing the
2024 NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Championship title in
Division 1, 145-pound Weight Class on February 24,
2024

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Liam
Carlin, who captured the Division 1, 2024 NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling
Championship title in the 145-pound Weight Class at the MVP Arena in
Albany on Saturday, February 24, 2024; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of his excited fans, Liam Carlin
won the state title by garnering a 3-1 decision over Washingtonville's
Mason Ketcham; and

WHEREAS, Utilizing outstanding talent and exceptional team play,
Liam Carlin capped off a spectacular season with a 44-3 record and was
the top seed in the 145-pound bracket entering the state tournament
matches; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his finals match, Liam Carlin recorded two
straight wins, with pins in times of 1:11 and 1:04 during the first
rounds of the tournament; and

WHEREAS, Earlier in the season, Liam Carlin was recognized by the
Times Union, a Capital Region newspaper being awarded Boys' Athlete of
the Week on December 21, 2023; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this scholar athlete is
due in great part to the efforts of a great team of coaches, skilled and
inspirational tutors, respected for their ability to develop potential
into excellence; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Stephen Jones, worked hard to
hone the skills of this champion, teaching this outstanding athlete
lessons which will prove invaluable both on and off the mat; and

WHEREAS, In light of his recent accomplishments Liam Carlin has
brought honor and just pride to his school and community on the local,
and State level; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Liam Carlin of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School upon
the occasion of capturing the 2024 NYSPHSAA Boys Wrestling Championship
title in Division 1, 145-pound Weight Class on February 24, 2024; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Liam Carlin, Head Coach Stephen Jones, Athletic Director
Joe Scalise, Principal Timothy Brunson and Superintendent Patrick
McGrath, Jr.
