MOURNING the death of Joseph Iantorno,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Iantorno of Bedford, New York, died on Saturday,
December 9, 2023, at the age of 88; and

WHEREAS, Born in Port Chester, New York, on September 15, 1935,
Joseph Iantorno's parents are the late Guiseppe Iantorno and Antoinette
Caminitti Iantorno; and

WHEREAS, Furthering his education, Joseph Iantorno graduated from
SUNY New York with a Horticulture Associate Degree; and

WHEREAS, With a passion for landscape and design, Joseph Iantorno
established a partnership with the business Designs by Lee; after
retiring, he worked at Perennial Gardens; and

WHEREAS, Serving the community for many years, Joseph Iantorno was a
member of the Bedford Fire Department for most of his life, having
joined in 1962; he held positions such as: Line Officer, Chief,
President, Chairman Board of Fire Commissioners, and was the Grand
Marshal of the 100th Anniversary Parade in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Devoting his time to associations for public good, Joseph
Iantorno was a member of the Westchester County Association of Fire
Districts since 1986, and served as President in 1993 until 1994;
Westchester County Volunteer Firemans' Association since 1986, and
served as Chairman of Fallen Firefighters Memorial from 1990 to 2023;
Westchester County Association of Fire Chiefs since 1969, serving as
Director from 1984 to 2002, 2008 to 2023, and President from 2002 to
2005; NYS Association of Fire Chiefs from 1971 to 2023, serving as the
Westchester County Representative since 1998; and lastly, Westchester
County Fire Advisory Board since 2006; and

WHEREAS, In his free time, Joseph Iantorno enjoyed gardening,
camping, and spending time with his beloved family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Iantorno distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Iantorno's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Iantorno is survived by his beloved wife of 63
years, Rita (Brust) Iantorno; son-in-law, Justin Kernan; grandchildren,

Nicole Riann, Marissa Elise, and Justin Ryan Kernan; brother, Michael
Iantorno; and several nieces and nephews; he was predeceased by his
daughter, Cara Iantorno Kernan and parents, Guiseppe Iantorno and
Antoinette Caminitti Iantorno; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Joseph Iantorno leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joseph Iantorno, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Joseph Iantorno.
