COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Village
of Broadalbin, New York

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Village of Broadalbin, New
York; and

WHEREAS, A village in Fulton County, New York, the name "Broadalbin"
derives from the Breadalbane Region in Scotland; the majority of the
village lies in the Town of Broadalbin, but a small portion extends west
into the Town of Mayfield; and

WHEREAS, The Village of Broadalbin is near the site of the first
settlement in the Town, which took place c.1770; and

WHEREAS, The Hotel Broadalbin, built in 1854 as a glove store and
expanded in 1881 when it was converted into a hotel, is one of the last
surviving buildings from the pre-Civil War period along the main strip;
it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011, and
was recently renovated to operate year-round as a hotel; and

WHEREAS, The Village of Broadalbin experienced a string of
destructive fires between 1877 and 1905, resulting in the loss of over a
dozen businesses and multiple churches; and

WHEREAS, A truly charming community, there is a special comfort in
the safety of a small village where the streets are named after familiar
people and landmarks; and

WHEREAS, Of historic origin, and remaining fruitful over the ebb and
flow of decades of growth and change, the Village of Broadalbin
continues to provide the quintessential quality of life for its
residents; and

WHEREAS, The residents of the Village of Broadalbin have a bright
outlook for the future of their community, which remains a beautiful
place in which to live, work and raise a family; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of Broadalbin's rich history and enduring
contribution to the State of New York, this Legislative Body is proud to
pay tribute to this spirited village upon the occasion of its 100th
Anniversary; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Village of Broadalbin, New
York, recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in
the life of the community of the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Village of Broadalbin, New York.
