COMMENDING the Order of the Eastern Star Sunshine
Chapter No. 34 upon the occasion of hosting its Five
Point Tea Fundraiser on April 28, 2024, and paying
tribute to this year's honoree, Worthy Matron Thelma
Herbert

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Order of the Eastern Star Sunshine Chapter No. 34 upon the
occasion of hosting its Five Point Tea Fundraiser at the Ballroom in
Brooklyn, New York, on Sunday, April 28, 2024; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body celebrates the time-honored tradition
of breaking bread with the elegant women of the Order of the Eastern
Star Sunshine Chapter No. 34 during their Five Point Tea Fundraiser; and

WHEREAS, The Order of the Eastern Star honors Worthy Matron Thelma
Herbert for her amazing leadership and guidance of the Sunshine Chapter
No. 34 in accordance with the Prince Hall Order of the Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, Worthy Matron Thelma Herbert, through her strong
leadership, steady teaching, and unwavering love for her community,
family, and fellow sisters, has shown that leadership can be done with
true grace and elegance; and

WHEREAS, The lovely women of the Sunshine Chapter No. 34 have proven
that, through cohesion, hard work, and partnership, harmony can be
brought to the community in the ways once envisioned by the Elders; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes that the charitable good,
which comes from this fundraiser, will provide school supplies for the
youth, support summer programs to inspire and position children to
remain in school and become successful, and aid in the endeavor of
providing safe places, events, and functions for all the community's
youth, especially young Black and Brown girls, to have successful role
models to aspire to be; and

WHEREAS, The excellence that the Order of the Eastern Star provides
across the state is not unnoticed; the Members of this Legislative Body
recognize the energy and effort to provide services for the community,
the accomplishments of this incredible organization, and the women who
make it all possible, anticipating the further excellent work they will
continue to achieve in their communities; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Order of the
Eastern Star Sunshine Chapter No. 34; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Order of the Eastern Star Sunshine Chapter No. 34 upon the
occasion of hosting its Five Point Tea Fundraiser on April 28, 2024, and
paying tribute to this year's honoree, Worthy Matron Thelma Herbert; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Order of the Eastern Star Sunshine Chapter No. 34 and
Worthy Matron Thelma Herbert.
