COMMEMORATING the 200th Anniversary of Steuben
Community Church on June 8, 2024

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social, and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and

WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and Nation to pay tribute
to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to the
ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
200th Anniversary of Steuben Community Church on Saturday, June 8, 2024,
to be celebrated with a history seminar, music, food trucks, kids'
activities, as well as a workshop service at Steuben Town Hall; and

WHEREAS, The Steuben Community Church stands as a welcoming
institution to all citizens of Remsen, New York and beyond, finding
great success in the preaching and teachings by the church's host of
previous cherished pastors, as well as by the current pastor, The
Reverend Brenda Brucker; and

WHEREAS, The Steuben Circuit was set forth by the Genesee Conference
in 1824, and was large in size, requiring two ministers who traveled by
foot and horseback; three decades later, the circuit was changes to need
only one minister; and

WHEREAS, In 1854, a group of believers endeavored to construct a
church at Steuben Corners; the structure was finished two years later in
1856 at a cost of $1,063.20; and

WHEREAS, Undergoing updates over the course of its history, the
church bell was purchased in 1874, stained glass windows were added in
1915, and electric lights were later installed in 1937; and

WHEREAS, In 1936, Steuben, Westernville, and North Western Churches
were joined into one charge conference; by 2018, these three churches
were separated to function independently; and

WHEREAS, In 2023, the Steuben United Methodist Church was renamed to
Steuben Community Church; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of Steuben Community Church on June 8,
2024; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Steuben Community Church.
