CONGRATULATING Dolphus Knowles upon the occasion
of celebrating his 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Dolphus Knowles upon the occasion of his 100th Birthday
celebrated on February 28, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Dolphus Knowles was born on February 28, 1924, and resides
in Hamilton, New York, where he spent most of his life; and

WHEREAS, Devoted to serving his community, Dolphus Knowles has been
an exceptional member of the Brookhaven community for many years; and

WHEREAS, Dolphus Knowles recently was honored with a birthday
celebration by town officials when they, along with Mr. Knowles'
friends, fellow VFW Post members, and members of his loving family
including his wife Adele, all celebrated his 100th birthday on February
26, 2024, proclaiming this day as "Dolphus Knowles Day"; and

WHEREAS, Having served honorably in the United States Army during
World War II, Dolphus Knowles served with bravery and dedication in a
smoke screen unit; and

WHEREAS, Dolphus Knowles spent many years after the war as a public
servant working for the United States Postal Service; and

WHEREAS, Dolphus Knowles is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 8300 in East Patchogue, New York, and holds the commendable status
of being the oldest living member of this Post; and

WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Dolphus Knowles has enriched the lives of those around him
through his service to his country and community and through the vibrant
charm and infinite wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments, and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while

themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dolphus Knowles upon the occasion of celebrating his 100th
Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dolphus Knowles.
