HONORING outgoing President Dr. David Podwall upon
the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Nassau County Medical Society on
May 21, 2024
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals within the medical field who
distinguish themselves through professional excellence and who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
outgoing President Dr. David Podwall upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Nassau County Medical Society
to be celebrated at its Annual Gala on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at The
Village Club at Lake Success in Great Neck, New York; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional leader and advocate for the medical
community in Nassau County, Dr. David Podwall's dedication and
commitment to improving healthcare services have made a significant
impact on the Nassau County Medical Society and the community-at-large;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Podwall practices general neurology, with a
subspecialty in neuromuscular diseases; he is certified by the American
Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the American Board of
Electrodiagnostic Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Podwall has held several positions in the
American Medical Association, Medical Society of the State of New York,
Nassau County Medical Society, and the Nassau Academy of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. David Podwall is a Clinical Assistant
Professor of Neurology at the Zucker School of Medicine at
Hofstra/Northwell; he is an attending physician at North Shore
University Hospital in Manhasset, New York, and St. Francis Hospital in
Roslyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Cornell University with a Bachelor of
Science degree, with distinction in neurobiology, Dr. David Podwall
received his Medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine
and was the recipient of the Alfred Angiest Award for excellence in
pathology research; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Podwall completed his internal medicine
internship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his
residency in neurology at The Neurological Institute of Columbia
Presbyterian Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his residency, Dr. David Podwall
completed a neuromuscular fellowship at Columbia and acquired extensive
experience in electromyography (EMG); while at Columbia, he had multiple
publications, including two reviews of diabetic neuropathy; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, he has published in journals, such as:
"Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports," "The Neurologist,"
"Journal of Neurology," "Cancer Investigation," "Journal of Child
Neurology," "Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety," and "Medical
Mycology"; and
WHEREAS, Dr. David Podwall has continued his academic career serving
as the Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials in the area of
Alzheimer's and dementia; he has also been recognized for his
outstanding teaching by the Department of Medicine at North Shore, as
well as one of New York's "Top Doctors" by Castle Connolly, and New York
Magazines "Best Doctors"; and
WHEREAS, As a leader in his profession, Dr. David Podwall has proven
himself to be a great asset to medicine and to the health and welfare of
the citizens of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor outgoing President Dr. David Podwall upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Nassau County Medical Society
on May 21, 2024; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. David Podwall, outgoing President of the Nassau
County Medical Society.
