COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of Cassadaga
Volunteer Fire Department

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commemorate the 100th
Anniversary of Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department and to honor its past
and present firefighting members for 100 years of fire protection to the
citizens of Cassadaga, New York, and its surrounding communities; and

WHEREAS, Volunteer fire departments are an integral part of
community protection services in every locality of our State; during the
past 100 years, the courageous and devoted firefighters of Cassadaga
Volunteer Fire Department have valiantly responded to all types of fire
emergencies and have won the praise and respect of the community which
they serve; and

WHEREAS, The brave firefighters of Cassadaga Volunteer Fire
Department are prepared to risk their lives every day to help save the
lives of others and to protect homes and property from the destruction
caused by fire; and

WHEREAS, In 1921, the village of Cassadaga became incorporated with
the intention of levying taxes for the purpose of constructing a fire
department, thusly meeting the needs of the community; in 1924, the
Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department was formed, and remains a voluntary
department today; and

WHEREAS, Since the construction of the original firehouse on Maple
Avenue and Mill Street in 1925, the department has undergone
construction expansions to meet growing storage needs and has cycled
through a variety of fire engines and ambulances, keeping up with the
latest technology and equipment in the field through the duration of 100
years of serving the community; and

WHEREAS, Additions to the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department
include the Ladies Fire Auxiliary and the fire police for traffic
control, attesting to the departments commitment to evolving and
learning over the course of its many years; and

WHEREAS, The Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department also has hosted
numerous community events over the years, such as Christmas parties for
children which include movies, snacks, and various programming events
such as magic shows; the department has also hosted turkey raffles and
chicken barbecues, and its firemen have participated in the Stockton
Gala Days and march in annual Memorial Day parades; and

WHEREAS, In 1973, a new four bay building with a tower for drying
hoses and a community hall were completed at 22 Mill Street, providing
growing opportunities for the firemen and community members at large;
and

WHEREAS, Whether by installation and display of a commemorative
plaques, a flag pole, or variety of its esteemed ceremonies, it is the
tradition of Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department to honor those

dedicated volunteer members of the department's storied past and present
day; and

WHEREAS, In addition to the skill and devoted service demonstrated
by individual firefighters, Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department reflects
the history and development of firefighting over the past century; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
and property is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility
their own by serving as firefighters; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that we should
give special recognition to those who work so assiduously for the
betterment of their communities, and acknowledge publicly the heroic
good works performed by the volunteer fire departments of this great
Empire State, their officers, and auxiliaries; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Cassadaga Volunteer Fire
Department; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department.
