COMMENDING Brooklyn Defender Services upon the
occasion of hosting its 2024 Family Defense Benefit
on June 10, 2024

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Brooklyn Defender Services upon the occasion of hosting its 2024
Family Defense Benefit on Monday, June 10, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Brooklyn Defender Services is a non-profit law firm that
centers its work on individuals facing detrimental results from
interactions within the legal system and has been a beacon of hope for
those who would otherwise be overlooked; and

WHEREAS, More than 63% of Brooklyn residents are people of color,
but more than 89% of Brooklyn Defender Services' clients are people of
color, highlighting the need for services which address the disparities
in the criminal, family, and immigration legal systems; and

WHEREAS, Brooklyn Defender Services, of Brooklyn, New York,
celebrates 17 years of keeping families together; this Legislative Body
recognizes the assistance this guardian provides for its community and
honors its dedication to empower underserved Brooklyn residents,
anticipating future good works and wishing the company many more
successful years to come; and

WHEREAS, The success of Brooklyn Defender Services is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and commend Brooklyn Defender Services upon the occasion of
hosting its 2024 Family Defense Benefit on June 10, 2024; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brooklyn Defender Services.
