CELEBRATING the life and legacy of Matthew Hoose,
Ontario County Clerk, devoted family man and
distinguished member of his community

WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Matthew Hoose was one such
individual; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Matthew Hoose, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Matthew James Hoose, of Ontario County, New York, died on
Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the age of 54; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Hoose was born on August 26, 1968 in Canandaigua,
New York, to Pamela and Norman "Skip" Hoose; as a young boy, he enjoyed
hunting with his grandfather, working at the family bakery, and playing
sports such as baseball and bowling; and

WHEREAS, From there, Matthew Hoose forwarded his passions by
managing bowling alleys across the eastern United States before moving
his young family back to his beloved hometown of Canandaigua; and

WHEREAS, Following in his grandfather's footsteps, Matthew Hoose
went on to become the Ontario County Clerk in 2012, a position to which
he aspired for most of his life; he was also an active member of the New
York State Association of County Clerks; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his civic duties, Matthew Hoose maintained
his dedication to being a supportive and encouraging figure in his
children's lives; he involved himself with anything from coaching T-ball
to building sets for school musicals to being his family's eager
chauffeur through all of their adventures; and

WHEREAS, In his free time, Matthew Hoose shared his love for cooking
by sneaking tastes of his homemade pasta sauce and hosting the family
barbecue while he grilled or smoked meat that even his vegetarian
daughter could be proud of; he also enjoyed the outdoors, whether on the
golf course with his friends and family, on the lake fishing and
boating, or appreciating the Maine coastline with his cherished wife,
Amy; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Hoose was a passionate man, happiest when
surrounded by those he loved; he will remain in the hearts of those who
continue to love and remember him; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his parents, Matthew Hoose is survived by
his loving wife, Amy; his children, Ryan (Aundrea), Taylor, Carson, and
Joy; and his stepchildren, Dylan, Ava and Fay; he was predeceased by his
sister, Mandy; and grandparents, Renato "Ray" and Betty; and


WHEREAS, Matthew Hoose's infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and
strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the
countless lives he touched; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Matthew Hoose leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who
were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and legacy of Matthew Hoose, and to express its
deepest condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Matthew Hoose.
