HONORING Sister Patricia Vetrano upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Bishop Joseph
M. Sullivan Founders Award on May 9, 2023

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sister Patricia Vetrano upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Founders Award, to be
celebrated at Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School's Annual Gala on Tuesday,
May 9, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Raised in Tarrytown, New York, Patricia Vetrano was
educated by the Sisters of Mercy; she subsequently earned her bachelor's
degree from Mercy College and master's degree in education and
counseling from Manhattan; and

WHEREAS, After 12 years of teaching in elementary schools, ministry
in parishes, and serving as Director of Formation for her NY Regional
Community, Sister Patricia Vetrano became the principal of Our Lady of
Victory Academy in Dobbs Ferry in 1990; and

WHEREAS, In 2000, Sister Patricia Vetrano was elected to the New
York Sisters of Mercy Community Leadership Team; from 2000 to 2021, the
Sister served on Community Leadership, including 15 years on the
Mid-Atlantic Community Leadership Team, eventually becoming President;
and

WHEREAS, Sister Patricia Vetrano, in her various ministries, served
on many boards, such as educational, health care systems, and social
services; and

WHEREAS, In her role as President of the Sisters of Mercy, Sister
Patricia Vetrano facilitated the relocation of Cristo Rey Brooklyn High
School to its new location, providing better resources for education for
young people in the community; and

WHEREAS, For the last decade, under Sister Patricia Vetrano's
leadership and advocacy, the Sisters of Mercy have served as the
Spiritual Endorser of Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School; and

WHEREAS, Within every community, there are inevitably some
individuals who, by virtue of their energy, vision, and dedication,
command the greatest respect among their friends and colleagues, and
within the community at large; Sister Patricia Vetrano is one such
individual; and

WHEREAS, The Brooklyn community is indeed fortunate and blessed to
have such a dedicated and respected educational leader; her wisdom and

contributions reach into every classroom, truly making a difference in
the lives of those lucky enough to work with her; and

WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education in New York State,
Sister Patricia Vetrano continually demonstrates an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at
Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School for the benefit of its faculty and
students, as well as for the entire community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sister Patricia Vetrano upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan Founders Award on May 9,
2023; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sister Patricia Vetrano.
