COMMENDING Rudy Carmenaty upon the occasion of his
retirement after five years of dedicated service to
the Columbia Law School Association

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in this
great State; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Rudy
Carmenaty upon the occasion of his retirement after five years of
dedicated service to the Columbia Law School Association; and

WHEREAS, A highly respected entity in the law field, Rudy Carmenaty
has served as President of the Columbia Law School Association since
July 1, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Rudy Carmenaty has a vast education, he received his
Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors from Rutgers College in 1987 and his
Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School in 1990; and

WHEREAS, Formerly the Director of Legal Services from 2011 to 2022,
presently, Rudy Carmenaty serves as Deputy Commissioner for the Nassau
County Department of Social Services; and

WHEREAS, Truly an individual dedicated to his profession, Rudy
Carmenaty has been admitted to a myriad of bar associations; he has been
admitted to the Bar of the State of New York, the Southern and Eastern
Districts of New York; the Bar of the United States Supreme Court; the
Bar of the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, Court of
Appeals for the Second Circuit, Court of Federal Claims, Court of
International Trade, Tax Court, Court of Appeals for Veteran Claims,
Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and Court of Appeals for the
District of Columbia Circuit; and

WHEREAS, A testament to his expertise, Rudy Carmenaty has received
citations from the United States Congress, Nassau County Executive, and
the Towns of Hempstead, New York and Oyster Bay, New York; he is also
the recipient of the President's Award from the Nassau County Bar
Association and has been recognized by the Hispanic Brotherhood Inc.,
the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association, the Kings County Housing Court
Bar Association, the Columbian Lawyer's Association of Nassau County,
Inc., and the New Jersey Folk Festival; and

WHEREAS, Rudy Carmenaty has been faithfully dedicated to many
professional affiliations such as the Board of Advisors of the Kernochan
Center for Law, Media & the Arts, Columbia Law School's Public Interest
and Public Service Council, the Board of Trustees of the Theodore
Roosevelt Association, the Board of Directors of the Hispanic
Brotherhood, Inc., the Board of Directors of the Nassau County Bar
Association, the American Bar Association & Fellow of the American Bar
Foundation, the NYC Bar Association, the Long Island Hispanic Bar
Association, the Nassau County Police Reserves, the International

Churchill Society, the United States Naval Institute, the United States
Navy League, and Kiwanis International; and

WHEREAS, The Columbia Law School Association is indeed fortunate and
blessed to have had such a dedicated and respected educational leader;
his wisdom and contributions to the Columbia Law School have truly made
a difference in the lives of those fortunate enough to have worked with
him; and

WHEREAS, A significant contributor to education and law in the State
of New York, Rudy Carmenaty has continually demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion, and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered for
the benefit of its faculty and students, as well as for the entire
community; and

WHEREAS, In completing his service as President on June 30, 2023,
Rudy Carmenaty leaves behind more than mere bricks and mortar; he leaves
behind a legacy to the students of the Columbia Law School and to the
residents of New York City; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Rudy Carmenaty upon the occasion of his retirement after five
years of dedicated service to the Columbia Law School Association, and
to wish him continued success in all his future endeavors; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rudy Carmenaty.
