COMMENDING Friends and Trustees Inc. of Raynham
Hall Museum upon the occasion of hosting their
Annual Benefit "Love Re-Awakened", and paying
tribute to this year's honorees on May 6, 2023
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Friends and Trustees of Raynham Hall Museum upon the
occasion of hosting their Annual Benefit "Love Re-Awakened", and to pay
tribute to this year's honorees on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the
Muttontown Country Club in East Norwich, New York; and
WHEREAS, This year's honorees are The North Shore Leader, Anton
Media Group, and Richner Communications/Oyster Bay Herald Guardian, all
of whom are being recognized for their steadfast and unremitting
commitment to their community; and
WHEREAS, The North Shore Leader has been a vitally important
institution on the North Shore for over 27 years and is known in the
communities that it serves for its quality journalism and effective
involvement in the issues that touch the lives of so many residents;
each week, the newspaper reaches thousands of Gold Coast readers,
covering and reaching all the communities from Manhasset in the West to
Northport in the East and everything in between; and
WHEREAS, Angela Susan Anton is a dynamic and innovative business
leader, philanthropist, and publisher of Anton Media Group; established
in 1984, the group consists of community newspapers, magazines,
specialty publications, and digital sites that cover local markets
throughout Nassau County, New York; since its inception, Angela Susan
Anton has strived to deliver high quality hyper-local news as well as
targeted niche and lifestyle publications; and
WHEREAS, Owned by Richner Communications, which is led by CEO and
publisher Stuart Richner, the Oyster Bay Herald Guardian, now known
today as the Oyster Bay Herald, was founded in 1899; throughout the last
124 years, it has stayed true to its mission of serving Oyster Bay and
the surrounding villages, providing important information for those who
live and work in the communities often overlooked by other media
outlets; and
WHEREAS, Located at 20 West Main Street in Oyster Bay on Long
Island, the Raynham Hall Museum was the home of the Townsend family, who
helped settle the town, and who were members of George Washington's
Culper Ring of Spies; the house was renamed Raynham Hall after the
Townsend seat in Norfolk, England, in 1850 by a grandson of the original
owner; and
WHEREAS, Today, the historic home is owned by the Town of Oyster Bay
and operated as a public museum by the Friends of Raynham Hall Museum,
Inc.; in addition, Raynham Hall is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places, a Town of Oyster Bay Landmark, and is a featured site
on the Oyster Bay History Walk audio walking tour; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Friends and Trustees Inc. of Raynham Hall Museum upon the
occasion of hosting their Annual Benefit "Love Re-Awakened", and to pay
tribute to this year's honorees on May 6, 2023; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Friends and Trustees Inc. of Raynham Hall Museum, The
North Shore Leader, Anton Media Group, and Richner Communications/Oyster
Bay Herald Guardian.
