MOURNING the death of Roxanne Socolow,
distinguished citizen, and devoted member of her
community
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to publicly mourn the death
of those prominent citizens whose lifework and purposeful endeavors have
served to enrich and enhance the quality and character of life for
others in their community and the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body recognizes the passing of Roxanne Socolow, a preeminent citizen
whose distinguished public service and caring commitment will long serve
as a standard to which others might aspire; and
WHEREAS, Roxanne Socolow of Chappaqua, New York, died on March 7,
2023, at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, Born to David and Esther Miller on January 12, 1939 in New
Haven, Connecticut, Roxanne Miller went on to graduate from Hillhouse
High School and Lasell College; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating college, Roxanne Miller became a registered
medical technologist; and
WHEREAS, Finding her life partner, Roxanne Miller married Dr. Edward
Socolow and their love flourished for more than 60 years; they raised
two boys, John and Brian; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Roxanne Socolow was involved in
the Chappaqua Drama Group, Chappaqua Volunteer Fire Department and
Temple Beth El; and
WHEREAS, Later in life, Roxanne Socolow returned to college at Sarah
Lawrence, earning a Bachelor's degree in 1990; and
WHEREAS, A truly creative individual with many passions, Roxanne
Socolow was an accomplished piano player, an avid reader, and creator of
many exquisite needlepoint pieces, that she shared with family and
friends; and
WHEREAS, Roxanne Socolow is survived by her two sons, John and
Brian; sister, Carol; and grandchildren, Jake, Alison, Sam, Kevin and
Katie, all of whom will cherish her loving memory; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Roxanne Socolow leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Roxanne Socolow, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Roxanne Socolow.
