Assembly Resolution No. 1061

COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of the
Horseheads Elks Lodge No. 2297 on April 20, 2024

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Horseheads Elks Lodge No. 2297,
to be celebrated on Saturday, April 20, 2024; and

WHEREAS, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) is one
of the oldest and largest fraternal organizations in the world, with
about one million members in more than 2,000 lodges across the United
States; and

WHEREAS, BPOE strives to teach the principles of Charity, Justice,
Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote
the welfare and enhance the happiness of its members; to quicken the
spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to
perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its
government; and

WHEREAS, The Horseheads Elks No. 2297 has been an important part of
the Horseheads, New York, community since 1965, providing many social
and charitable opportunities for its members and the community-at-large;
and

WHEREAS, On April 4, 1964, the Lodge was formally instituted after
several months with the initiation of 186 new members being conducted by
the officers of the nearby Watkins Glen Lodge No. 1546, which was the
sponsoring Lodge; and

WHEREAS, In these early months, the Lodge met at the St. Mary's
School Annez Hall until a permanent lodge building could be completed;
and

WHEREAS, Through the tireless efforts of the Building Committee, on
July 5, 1965, a formal Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on the site of
the new building, which opened October 30, 1965; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Horseheads Elks Lodge has been
focused on doing good works for the youth of the nation, especially
through support of youth athletics; and

WHEREAS, Remaining true to the mission of the BPOE and under the
able leadership of Jerry Moore, the Horseheads Elks Lodge No. 2297
steadfastly serves its community through numerous benevolent programs;
and

WHEREAS, Organizations of singular distinction such as the
Horseheads Elks Lodge No. 2297 merit the grateful praise of the
community and of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proudly moved to honor and commend
the members of the Horseheads Elks Lodge No. 2297, past and present, who
have labored so conscientiously to secure and improve the quality of
life for the community it serves; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Horseheads Elks Lodge No. 2297;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Horseheads Elks Lodge No. 2297.
