MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
April 2024, as Workplace Violence Prevention Month
in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
officially as Workplace Violence Prevention Month with the goal of
increasing awareness to prevent and combat workplace violence; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim April 2024, as Workplace
Violence Prevention Month in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Every individual deserves a workplace that is free from the
threat of violence, fostering safety and stability within our local
communities; and

WHEREAS, Healthcare workers, whom the federal government reports are
five times more likely to experience workplace violence than employees
in all other industries, deserve a secure and violence-free workplace
environment; and

WHEREAS, April is federally acknowledged as Workplace Violence
Prevention Awareness Month, emphasizing the national commitment to this
crucial cause; and

WHEREAS, Everyone is entitled to a workplace free of violence; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim April 2024, as Workplace
Violence Prevention Month in the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York; the New York American College of Emergency Physicians; the New
York State Emergency Nurses Association; and the American Nurses
Association of New York.
