CONGRATULATING Peyton Mullin upon the occasion of
capturing the 235-pound weight class title at the
NYSPHSAA Girls Invitational State Championship on
January 26, 2024

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Peyton Mullin upon the occasion of capturing the 235-pound weight class
title at the NYSPHSAA Girls Invitational State Championship on January
26, 2024, at the SRC Arena and Events Center in Syracuse, New York; and

WHEREAS, Peyton Mullin, ranked ninth seed at the start of the
competition, opened the tournament with a win over Kittery VanGuilder of
Hadley-Luzerne via fall, in 1:14 of the first period; in round two, she
pinned top-ranked Alexis Durdon of Windsor after holding a 4-0 lead
through two periods, continuing to dominate the competition on a hot
streak; and

WHEREAS, The standout Peyton Mullin of Dundee High School then
pinned Patricia Deslandes of Minisink Valley after once again leading
4-0 in the first period; and

WHEREAS, Finally, in an incredible upset, freshman Peyton Mullin
defeated defending champion and Waverly High School standout Mackenzie
LaForest via fall 1:05 seconds into the match; and

WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this stellar athlete is
due in great part to the efforts of her committed and talented team of
coaches who are respected for their ability to develop potential into
excellence, as well as her various support systems consisting of
prideful family, friends, and the community at large; and

WHEREAS, This new state champion, Peyton Mullin, has proven a life
of dedication to wrestling, practicing the sport since the young age of
four; and

WHEREAS, A result of eleven years spent honing her craft, Peyton
Mullin has many notable accomplishments, including: 142 total career
wins, a boys 285-pound weight class record of 7-7, and a flawless girls
235-pound weight class record of 14-0; she also is a two-time New York
Wrestling Association for Youth (NYWAY) state champion, a boys NYWAY
second and fourth place finisher, a girls Wayne-Finger Lakes League
Champion, and is now the esteemed NYSPHSAA Girls State Invitational
235-pound weight class champion; and


WHEREAS, In light of her recent accomplishments, Peyton Mullin has
brought honor and just pride to her school and community on the local,
state, and national level; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Head Coach Sheldon Gibson and Peyton Mullin have
clearly contributed to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of
their school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Peyton Mullin upon the occasion of capturing the 235-pound
weight class title at the NYSPHSAA Girls Invitational State Championship
on January 26, 2024; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to State Champion Peyton Mullin and Head Coach Sheldon
Gibson.
