CELEBRATING the life of United States Air Force
Captain Theodore Cohen, meritorious veteran,
distinguished citizen, and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Theodore Cohen was one such
individual; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Theodore Cohen, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Theodore "Ted" Cohen of Eltingville, New York, died on
Saturday, March 25, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Theodore Cohen
attended Brooklyn College where he was a member of the ROTC; not long
after the conclusion of the Second World War, he began his first tour as
a member of the United States Air Force with the Strategic Air Command
whose motto was "Peace is our Profession"; and

WHEREAS, Theodore Cohen was then deployed to Spain where he became
fluent in Spanish, before serving in Vietnam; he flew on 26 close air
support missions and achieved the esteemed rank of Captain; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his valiant military service,
Theodore Cohen spent his nights working with the Daily News prior to
working for Avon in international marketing for 25 years; and

WHEREAS, After his wife fell ill, Theodore Cohen retired early to
take care of her; they spent their last nine years together traveling
around the world; that passion for taking care of others would continue
beyond his wife's passing; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to serving his
fellow veterans, Theodore Cohen delivered food to homebound servicemen
and women, drove them to appointments, and offered his help in
completing VA paperwork; he was also a member of the USIVO, AF
Association, and the American Legion; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, his love for others extended to young adults,
as seen by his assistance in reviews and recommendations for high school
students to Service Academies; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who risked their
lives for their beloved Nation; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Theodore Cohen demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life of United States Air Force Captain Theodore Cohen,
meritorious Vietnam veteran, distinguished citizen, and devoted member
of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of United States Air Force Captain Theodore
Cohen.
