CELEBRATING the life of John J. Molloy, Jr.,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, John J. Molloy, Jr., of Staten Island, New York, died on
Monday, October 23, 2023, at the age of 53; and

WHEREAS, On June 30, 1970, John J. Molloy, Jr., was born to John J.
Molloy, Sr., and the late Catherine Molloy in Dyker Heights in Brooklyn,
New York; he was the eldest of four children; and

WHEREAS, John J. Molloy, Jr., graduated from Xaverian High School in
Brooklyn in 1988; this hard-working young man earned an income at the
Breezy Point Surf Club while attending high school; he completed his
education at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, graduating in
1992; he was a member of the college's rugby team for four years; and

WHEREAS, In July of 1996, John J. Molloy, Jr., left his occupation
as a day trader for the New York Stock Exchange and joined the New York
Police Department where he proudly served for 21 years, retiring as
Detective First Grade in the Counterterrorism Unit; and

WHEREAS, A natural-born protector and the epitome of a public
servant, John J. Molloy, Jr., was assigned to the streets of the 67th
Precinct after graduating from the Police Academy, serving the Flatbush
community for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, In October of 2005, John J. Molloy, Jr., was promoted to
Detective; he was promoted to Detective Second Grade in August of 2012
and Detective First Grade in March of 2015, retiring the following
October; he regarded the job as the greatest in the world, meeting
friends who became family; and

WHEREAS, Only one week after his retirement, John J. Molloy, Jr.,
commenced his second career in corporate security for Con Edison,
employed until his death seven years later; and

WHEREAS, John J. Molloy, Jr., was known for having a passion for a
good time, always smiling, and feeling blessed to have the friends he
made along his journey through life; he was a mentor to several, a
friend to many, and absolutely loved by all; he loved to be surrounded
by his family and friends, always ready with a not-so-short story; and

WHEREAS, Those who were fortunate to have this memorable man in
their lives regard him as a perfect gentleman and a bright light who
wanted to help, love, and laugh with all others; he lived his life with
passion, dignity, and an enormous amount of grace and faith; no one can

find the words to describe the void that the death of John J. Molloy,
Jr., has left for others to bear; he will be missed tremendously; and

WHEREAS, John J. Molloy, Jr., is survived by his father, John J.
Molloy, Sr. (Gail); loving wife of 21 years, Pamela; son, John (19);
daughters, Amanda (17) and Brooke (15); brother, Michael (Toni);
sisters, Mary Donnelly (Matt) and Kelly O'Connor (Mike); nephews, Jack
Molloy, Matthew Donnelly, and Michael O'Connor; nieces, Olivia Molloy,
Catherine Molloy, and Liza Donnelly; father-in-law, Joseph Regina; and a
tremendous number of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and co-workers; he
was predeceased by his mother, Catherine Molloy; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, John J. Molloy, Jr., leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life of John J. Molloy, Jr., distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of John J. Molloy, Jr.
