COMMEMORATING the 152nd Anniversary of the Village
of Wappingers Falls, New York, on September 22, 2023
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 152nd Anniversary of the Village of Wappingers Falls,
New York, on September 22, 2023; and
WHEREAS, The Village of Wappingers Falls got its name for the
waterfalls that run through the middle of the village; these falls
helped Wappingers make a cotton mill and they were also one of the
biggest printworks in the country; and
WHEREAS, The village holds the sixth oldest library in New York
State, Grinnell Library, and Mesier Park, which has been a public park
since 1891, hosts many annual events that focus around the bandstand and
tree-lined paths of the park; and
WHEREAS, The Wappingers Falls Police Station was built in 1940, and
still stands today; the New Hamburg Station on Metro North Railroad's
Hudson Line serves the Village of Wappingers Falls; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, the District was added to the National Register of
Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, Today, more than 6,000 residents call the Village of
Wappingers Falls home; and
WHEREAS, Of historic origin, and remaining fruitful over the ebb and
flow of decades of growth and change, the Village of Wappingers Falls
continues to provide the quintessential quality of life for its
residents; and
WHEREAS, The residents of the Village of Wappingers Falls have a
bright outlook for the future of their community, which remains a
beautiful place in which to live and raise a family; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of the Village of Wappingers Falls' rich
history and enduring contribution to the State of New York, this
Legislative Body is proud to pay tribute to this spirited town upon the
occasion of its 152nd Anniversary; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 152nd Anniversary of the Village of Wappingers Falls on
September 22, 2023, recognizing the significance of the role it
continues to play in the life of the community of the State of New York;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Village of Wappingers Falls.
