MOURNING the death of Arthur R. Orneck, committed
Past Fire Chief, distinguished citizen, and devoted
member of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Arthur R. Orneck of Yorktown Heights, New York, died on
Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at the age of 74; and
WHEREAS, Arthur R. Orneck distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Arthur R. Orneck worked as a Professional Firefighter for
the Greenville Fire District in Scarsdale, New York for twenty years
before retiring in 2000; he was a 58-year Life Member of the Yorktown
Heights Engine Company No. 1, serving as Chief of the Department between
1986 and 1987; and
WHEREAS, Past Chief Orneck was then elected to the Yorktown Heights
Board of Fire Commissioners in 1993 and began his thirtieth year as a
Commissioner on January 1, 2023; he was also a member of IBEW Local 3;
and
WHEREAS, Additionally, in great service to his country, Arthur R.
Orneck honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968-1974; he
attained the esteemed rank of Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, Arthur R. Orneck's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Arthur R. Orneck is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his
five children, Mellissa, Jeffrey, Arthur, Michael, and John;
grandchildren, Rebecca, Jacob, Savannah, Madison, Christian-Tyler,
Xander, Samantha, Joshua, Tyler, Shayne, Tristan, and Everett; four
great-grandchildren; brother, Howard; sisters, Ruthe, Carole and Susan;
and many nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, He is predeceased by his parents, two brothers-in-law, and
a niece; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Arthur R. Orneck leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Arthur R. Orneck, committed Past Fire Chief,
distinguished citizen, and devoted member of his community; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Arthur R. Orneck.
