COMMENDING Sid and Helen Gordon upon the occasion
of their designation for special recognition by
Congregation Shaara Tfille, The Jewish Community
Center of Saratoga Springs, on May 7, 2023

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who commit their
energies and purpose to helping others; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, family, and community; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Sid and Helen Gordon upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by Congregation Shaara Tfille, The Jewish Community
Center of Saratoga Springs, on Sunday, May 7, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Sid and Helen Gordon are being recognized for their
steadfast and unwavering dedication and many contributions to their
congregation, community and country; and

WHEREAS, Sid Gordon, a member of the military police in Osaka,
Japan, a soldier of the 17th Army 25th Mechanized Cavalry Room Special
Forces and post-World War II, and a military guard charged with guarding
Emperor Hirohito of Japan from 1946-1948, was awarded New York State's
Disabled Veteran of the Year in 2019; and

WHEREAS, Today, at 94 years of age, Sid Gordon continues to serve as
Chaplin of the Disabled American Veteran's Marcelle-Nolan Chapter No.
158, helping veterans and writing personal blessings for veterans'
events and funerals; and

WHEREAS, Born in Oregon Corners in Putnam County, New York, Helen
Gordon was a Prudential Insurance Agent for many years, as well as a
teacher in the Ballston Spa School District where she worked with
students with special needs; and

WHEREAS, Helen Gordon, a devoted wife and mother of six children,
gave tirelessly of her time and energies, volunteering countless hours
to the Jewish Community Center of Saratoga Springs to ensure members of
the congregation enjoyed social gatherings in addition to the religious
services; and

WHEREAS, Sid and Helen Gordon have been married for more than 40
years and enjoyed running their own vending machine business together
for 25 years; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their

commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Sid and Helen Gordon, so that future generations may know and appreciate
their admirable characters, their many benevolent deeds, and the respect
and esteem in which they are held; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sid and Helen Gordon upon the occasion of their designation for
special recognition by Congregation Shaara Tfille, The Jewish Community
Center of Saratoga Springs, on May 7, 2023; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sid and Helen Gordon.
