CONGRATULATING John J. Gould upon the occasion of
his retirement after 49 years of dedicated service
to the residents of the County of Rockland and the
Town of Haverstraw

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those who
have served to better the quality of life in our community and have had
a measurable positive impact on the lives of its residents; John J.
Gould is one such individual; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate John
J. Gould upon the occasion of his retirement after 49 years of dedicated
service to the residents of the County of Rockland and the Town of
Haverstraw; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary man worked for the residents of the
County of Rockland and Town of Haverstraw for 49 years, beginning in
1974 as a uniformed police officer with the Town of Haverstraw and the
Rockland County Sheriff's Patrol; in 1982, John J. Gould became a
Detective at the Rockland County District Attorney's office and was
promoted to Lieutenant in 1998; and

WHEREAS, With an unwavering commitment to law enforcement, he served
as the Assistant Director of the Narcotics Task Force for 11 years, and
as the Commanding Officer for the Computer Crime Task Force since June
2000; and

WHEREAS, John J. Gould was appointed to the New York State Division
of Criminal Justice Computer Crimes Advisory Group and the Rockland
Community College Computer Forensic Advisory Board; as such, he has
received numerous awards and citations in recognition of his many
accomplishments during his law enforcement career; and

WHEREAS, Continuing his service to the citizens of Rockland County
and the Town of Haverstraw, in 1999, John J. Gould was appointed to the
Town of Haverstraw Zoning Board of Appeals, where he served for eight
years, three years as Chairman; and

WHEREAS, In 2007, John J. Gould was appointed to the position of
Town Councilman for the Town of Haverstraw, where he continues to serve
today; additionally, he serves as a Town of Haverstraw Police
Commissioner and Sanitation Commissioner; and

WHEREAS, John J. Gould has given of his time and energies to many
community and civic organizations, including St. Gregory Barbarigo
Parish and Cornerstone, Haverstraw Elks Lodge No. 877, former Vice
Commander of the Leo Laders Post No. 130 Sons of the American Legion,
and Knights of Columbus Haverstraw Council No. 581; he has also served
as a manager and coach with the Haverstraw Little League and for the St.
Gregory's CYO Basketball Program; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by John J. Gould over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate John J. Gould upon the occasion of his retirement after 49
years of distinguished service to the County of Rockland and the Town of
Haverstraw, and to wish him well in all of his future endeavors; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John J. Gould.
