CONGRATULATING Michael M. Grant upon the occasion
of his retirement after 37 years of dedicated
service to the residents of the County of Rockland,
the Town of Haverstraw, and the Village of West
Haverstraw
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those who
have served to better the quality of life in our community and have had
a measurable positive impact on the lives of its residents; Michael M.
Grant is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Michael M. Grant upon the occasion of his retirement after 37 years of
dedicated service to the residents of the County of Rockland, the Town
of Haverstraw, and the Village of West Haverstraw; and
WHEREAS, A community activist who was born and raised in Rockland
County, Michael M. Grant is a lifelong resident of the Town of
Haverstraw, and the son of the late Mary Zippilli Grant and John T.
Grant, Rockland County's first County Executive; and
WHEREAS, Michael M. Grant has tirelessly worked for the residents of
the County of Rockland, the Town of Haverstraw and the Village of West
Haverstraw for a combined 37 years, beginning in 1986 as West
Haverstraw's Village Treasurer; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Michael M. Grant took office as a Town of
Haverstraw Councilman and was subsequently elected in November 2001 to
fill a two-year unexpired term and again for a full four-year term in
2003; and
WHEREAS, Legislator Michael M. Grant was sworn into office on
January 6, 2005, and has since been re-elected to the Rockland County
Legislature four times by the voters of District 2; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary man has served as Majority Leader seven
times; he has also served as Chair of the Government Operations
Committee, Vice Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, Vice Chair of
the Planning and Public Works Committee, Vice Chair of the Special
Committee on Transit, and as a member of the Economic Development
Committee, and as Chairman of Electrical Examiners; and
WHEREAS, In 2011 and 2022, Legislator Michael M. Grant co-chaired
the Rockland County Legislature's Special Committee on Redistricting; in
2011, he was the Legislature's Liaison to the County Comprehensive Plan
Task Force; and
WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Michael M. Grant has played an
active role in the community as a former Haverstraw King's Daughters
Public Library Trustee and Finance Officer; he has also served as a past
board member on several community-based organizations, including
Rockland County Girl Scout Council, Arts Alliance of Haverstraw, and
North Rockland Youth Recreation Program, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Michel M. Grant retired from Orange and Rockland Utilities
after 38 years, and in 2013, he received the prestigious Living Our
Values Award from Con Edison; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by Michael M. Grant over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Michael M. Grant upon the occasion of his retirement after
37 years of distinguished service to the County of Rockland, the Town of
Haverstraw and The Village of West Haverstraw, and to wish him well in
all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael M. Grant.
