WELCOMING the International Ice Hockey Federation
Women's World Championship teams to the City of
Utica, New York, April 3-14, 2024

WHEREAS, It is with noble admiration that this Legislative Body pays
just tribute to those venerable female athletes who distinguish
themselves through notable achievements and represent their State and
Nation with pride and determination; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body hereby welcomes the International Ice
Hockey Federation Women's World Championship teams to the City of Utica,
New York, April 3-14, 2024

WHEREAS, The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women's
World Championship will take over the City of Utica, New York, welcoming
teams from 10 different countries and a total of approximately
60,000-70,000 people to the region; this year will mark the fifth time
the United States has hosted the championship event and the first time
Utica will be the host city; and

WHEREAS, From April 3-14, 2024, nearly 30 women's hockey games will
take place inside the Adirondack Bank Center at the Utica Memorial
Auditorium in Utica; teams representing the United States, Canada,
Czechia, Finland, Switzerland, China, Denmark, Germany, Japan, and
Sweden will compete against one another as they all strive to take home
the gold; and

WHEREAS, In addition to the games taking place, attendees will have
the opportunity to enjoy entertainment and experiences off the ice; the
building at 470 Whitesboro Street in Utica will be transformed into the
Subaru World Championship Village, a venue which will be open to the
public and free to attend every day during the championship; and

WHEREAS, Centrally located on Whitesboro Street and Auditorium
Drive, the Subaru World Championship Village will offer visitors a host
of exciting, engaging activities to include interactive virtual reality
games, lawn games, a biergarten and much more; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, visitors will be able to watch tournament
highlights and pre-game shows on large-screen televisions, while
enjoying food and beverages from local and area restaurants and take in
live music from bands ranging from Nashville to New York; and

WHEREAS, The Subaru World Championship Village will carry outdoors
too, where visitors will take in a carnival-like atmosphere featuring an
interactive hockey "fun zone," a variety of vendors and more live
entertainment; the focal point of the outdoor activities is a Ferris
Wheel which will carry passengers high above the City of Utica's
skyline; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and the outstanding women in athletics across the

globe have clearly contributed to the spirit of excellence which is
their tradition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
welcome the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World
Championship teams to the City of Utica, New York, April 3-14, 2024; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the participating teams of the International Ice Hockey
Federation Women's World Championship.
