HONORING Marsha Appel upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Port
Jewish Center on June 14, 2025

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of exceptional character and commitment whose
purposeful endeavors serve to enhance the quality of life in their
communities and across the great State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Marsha Appel upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Port Jewish Center at its Annual Gala, "Fueling Our
Future," on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Harbor Links in Port Washington,
New York; and

WHEREAS, The Port Jewish Center is recognizing the dedicated leaders
of its committees whose tireless efforts ensure the Center's spiritual,
financial, and physical vitality; through their work, these committed
congregants uphold the core tenets of Reform Judaism-pursuing justice,
fostering community, caring for others, and repairing the world-thus
safeguarding the Center's mission and lasting presence for generations
to come; and

WHEREAS, Marsha Appel has been a devoted member of the Port Jewish
Center for 33 years, and has served as an unwavering pillar of its
community through her outstanding leadership and generous service; and

WHEREAS, As Chair of the Social Action Committee, Marsha Appel has
led numerous initiatives benefiting the broader Port Washington
community, including the High Holiday Food Drive, the Holiday
Adopt-a-Family Program, and the provision of Passover foods to
food-insecure Jewish families, ensuring that the values of compassion
and justice remain at the forefront of the Center's outreach; and

WHEREAS, Beyond her work in social action, Marsha Appel has further
enriched the life of the congregation through her roles as a Board
Trustee and leader of the Adult Education and Book Club programs; she
has also spearheaded two highly successful Book Sales, enhancing
educational and cultural engagement within the community; and

WHEREAS, Through her many contributions, Marsha Appel has
significantly strengthened the presence and impact of the Port Jewish
Center both within its congregation and throughout the wider Port
Washington community; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate and
committed individual, who so generously and faithfully serves others,
and whose life and work serve to inspire all those privileged to know
and work with her; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Marsha Appel upon the occasion of her designation for special

recognition by the Port Jewish Center, and to extend its sincere
appreciation for her outstanding service and enduring contributions; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Marsha Appel.
