HONORING Matthew Weidenbaum upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2025 Citizenship
Advancement Award

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people, within this great Empire State, who
have made strong contributions to their communities and serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Matthew Weidenbaum, upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2025 Citizenship Advancement Award, to be recognized at a senior
scholarship ceremony at Sanford H. Calhoun High School on Wednesday, May
28, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Weidenbaum, committed to hard work, has achieved
excellence in academics, community service, and extracurricular
endeavors, justly earning this esteemed recognition; and

WHEREAS, A senior at Sanford H. Calhoun High School, Matthew
Weidenbaum's success is reflected in his superior average, achieved
while tackling the most challenging courses offered by the school
district; his academic achievements include his membership in the
National Honor Society, English Honor Society, and most impressively,
his distinct recognition as an AP Scholar with Honors; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Weidenbaum is a leader in the Debate Club, serving
as an officer, and is also a valued member of the Key Club, DECA, and
the Jewish Student Union where he serves on the board; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Weidenbaum is deeply committed to giving back to
the community and has volunteered with Acing Autism where he teaches
children the fundamentals of tennis, combining the sport he loves with
his passion for helping children who face special challenges; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Weidenbaum is also a talented and dedicated member
of the symphonic band throughout the years; further showcasing his
altruism, he has raised funds for Parkinson's disease, demonstrating his
commitment to making a positive impact on others' lives; and

WHEREAS, Beyond his academic and community involvement, Matthew
Weidenbaum is an invaluable member of the basketball team these past
three years where his grit and determination have been evident in his
individual performance and his ability to elevate the level of
camaraderie among his teammates; and

WHEREAS, Pursuing a degree in finance, Matthew Weidenbaum plans to
attend the University of Delaware; and

WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
respected scholar and distinguished member of his community now stands
honorably with just pride in his accomplishments and in eager

anticipation of all his future endeavors and limitless opportunities;
and

WHEREAS, It is of utmost importance to honor the youth of today, the
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Matthew Weidenbaum upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2025 Citizenship Advancement Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Matthew Weidenbaum.
