HONORING Hank Grishman upon the occasion of his
retirement after 30 years of distinguished service
to the Jericho School District

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
those individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Hank Grishman upon the occasion of his retirement after 30 years of
distinguished service to the Jericho School District; and

WHEREAS, For the past 30 years, Hank Grishman rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Jericho School District; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as superintendent, Hank Grishman served
with loyalty, honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, Hank Grishman began his career in education as an
elementary and middle school mathematics teacher before working his way
up to proudly serving as the superintendent of multiple New York school
districts; and

WHEREAS, Hank Grishman's first administrative position was as an
elementary school principal in Yonkers, New York, where he grew up; and

WHEREAS, Following this role, Hank Grishman served as the
superintendent of four school districts before assuming his post at the
Jericho School District in 1995; and

WHEREAS, With a distinguished career spanning 47 cumulative years,
Hank Grishman has proudly served as a superintendent of schools across
multiple New York districts; and

WHEREAS, During Hank Grishman's productive tenure, the students and
staff of the Jericho School District have earned numerous national
accolades, including National Merit Scholarships, Siemens and INTEL
Science Competition awards, as well as various other distinctions of
excellence; and

WHEREAS, Under his steady leadership, Hank Grishman has ensured that
the Jericho School District has been consistently ranked as one of the
top open enrollment public schools in the United States across multiple
trusted polls and evaluations; and

WHEREAS, Always devoted to the success of Jericho students and
staff, Hank Grishman oversaw the expansion of academic course offerings,
the increase of co-curricular and athletic programs, and the extension
of both the school day and the academic year to better serve the needs
of all students; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Hank Grishman successfully guided the district
through capital improvements and building expansions totaling nearly
$100 million, enhancing the educational environment for current and
future generations; and

WHEREAS, The Jericho School District, under Hank Grishman's
leadership, became one of the first districts in New York State to
formally recognize and celebrate Lunar New Year, Diwali, and Eid,
promoting diversity, inclusivity, and cultural awareness within the
school community; and

WHEREAS, For his positive impact and admired leadership, Hank
Grishman was awarded the 2021 New York State School Superintendent of
the Year; he is also the recipient of the Outstanding Superintendent of
the Year Award from the New York State Association of School Business
Officials; Nassau BOCES Partners in Education Award; Educator of the
Year distinction from the Korean Parents Association of Long Island; is
a NYSPHSAA, Section VIII Hall of Fame inductee; Distinguished Service
recognition from the NYS Athletic Administrators Association;
Distinguished Service recognition from the Council of Administrators;
Jericho Athletic Association's Community Service Award; the National
School Development Council's Cooperative Leadership Award; and the
Friend of Education distinction from NYSUT; and

WHEREAS, Committed to service, Hank Grishman is the past president
and past member of the Executive Committee of the NYS Council of School
Superintendents; chair of the NYSCOSS Distinguished Service Committee;
past president and officer of the Executive Committee for the Leadership
for Educational Achievement Foundation, Inc.; past president and current
member of the Executive Committee of SCOPE; member of the NYS Public
High School Athletic Association Central Committee; chair of NYSPHSAA
Section VIII Superintendent's Board; past member of the American
Association of School Administrators Governing Board; and past president
and current member of the Executive Committee of the Nassau County
Council of School Superintendents; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his beloved wife and fellow
educator, Jill; their two admired sons; and five cherished
grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his fruitful
life and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, In his official acts, Hank Grishman was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Jericho School District, Hank
Grishman earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Hank Grishman upon the occasion of his retirement after 30 years
of distinguished service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Hank Grishman.
