COMMEMORATING the 250th Anniversary of the United
States Army

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
celebrate the distinguished past, present, and future of the
distinguished branches of the United States Department of Defense; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
celebrate the 250th Anniversary of United States Army to be celebrated
on Saturday, June 14, 2025; and

WHEREAS, The United States Army is the prime land service branch
within the Department of Defense created by the United States
Constitution; as our Nation's oldest military branch, the United States
Army is a global force that is revered throughout the world and called
to defend the United States; and

WHEREAS, Originally named the Continental Army, the United States
Army, led by George Washington, was officially established by the Second
Continental Congress during the Revolutionary war on June 14, 1775, as a
way to create a uniform military within the original colonies fighting
for American independence; and

WHEREAS, The United States Army prides itself on supporting our
Nation's policies, executing objectives that benefit the country, and
maintaining the peace and security of the United States; and

WHEREAS, The United States Army has not only been on the front lines
as a force for national defense, but also on the forefront of social
progress such as desegregation; and

WHEREAS, The legacy of the United States Army is built upon the
brave sacrifices of countless men and women who have served with
distinction throughout our Nation's history; many of these soldiers
being residents of New York State; and

WHEREAS, The 250th Anniversary of the United States Army presents a
moment of reflection and gratitude for the service of the soldiers, past
and present, that have made the ultimate commitment to protect our
Nation's values; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body looks to show its deepest
appreciation and respect for the United States Army and its soldiers of
the past, present, and future; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of its extensive history and enduring
contributions to the United States military, this Legislative Body is
proud to honor and salute the United States Army upon the occasion of
commemorating its 250th Anniversary; now therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause its deliberations to
commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the United States Army, recognizing

the significance of the role it continues to play for our country; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted
to the United States Army.
