HONORING Christopher Macchio upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the New
York Conference of Italian American Legislators on
May 19, 2025
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
celebrate those exemplary individuals of Italian American heritage who
have distinguished themselves through exceptional accomplishments in
their professional lives and whose dedication to community service
reflects the highest ideals of citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Christopher Macchio upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the New York Conference of Italian American Legislators
on Monday, May 19, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Macchio is being honored as an acclaimed tenor,
accomplished recording artist, and proud son of Italian American
lineage; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 1, 1978, in Holbrook, Long Island,
Christopher Macchio was raised in a family that instilled in him strong
values and a deep appreciation for his Italian heritage; his father,
Dennis Macchio, was a distinguished economics professor, successful
entrepreneur, and professional racecar driver, while his mother,
Lorraine Macchio, dedicated herself to nurturing the family before
contributing her talents to community banking; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Macchio's extraordinary vocal talent was first
recognized during his time at Sachem High School; encouraged by a
discerning music teacher, he embarked on formal voice training,
eventually studying under esteemed instructors, including Metropolitan
Opera baritone Theodor Uppman at the Manhattan School of Music and
Holocaust survivor and NYU adjunct professor John Kuhn; and
WHEREAS, Demonstrating both intellectual curiosity and artistic
discipline, Christopher Macchio earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in
European History from Stony Brook University in 2007, all while pursuing
a burgeoning music career; and
WHEREAS, Renowned for his powerful voice and compelling stage
presence, Christopher Macchio has performed in world-class venues such
as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and across continents including
Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East; as a member of the
celebrated New York Tenors, he has brought joy to diverse audiences
while honoring his cultural roots; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, Christopher Macchio signed with EMI Records,
releasing his debut studio album Dolci Momenti (Sweet Moments), followed
by a holiday album, O Holy Night; fusing classical operatic mastery with
contemporary appeal, his work has solidified his standing as a premier
crossover artist; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Macchio's vocal artistry has been showcased on
prominent media platforms including FOX, ABC, NBC, Rai Italia, and PBS,
most notably in the televised concert Bell'Aria: Live From Las Vegas; in
2024, he expanded his artistic repertoire with a Hollywood film debut in
Alejandro Monteverde's Cabrini and a role in Don Q alongside Armand
Assante; and
WHEREAS, A true global artist, Christopher Macchio performs fluently
in numerous languages-Italian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese,
Farsi, Hindi, Russian, Turkish, Hebrew, and Arabic-underscoring his deep
commitment to cross-cultural expression and the universal language of
music; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to humanitarian causes, Christopher Macchio has
lent his talents to numerous charitable initiatives, including the
Tunnel to Towers Foundation and Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night
with music icon David Foster; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Macchio's patriotism and artistry intersected
powerfully in his performances at the 2020 and 2024 Republican National
Conventions, and in January 2025, he made history as the first male
vocalist since 2005 to perform The Star-Spangled Banner at a U.S.
presidential inauguration; and
WHEREAS, Christopher Macchio exemplifies the enduring spirit,
resilience, and excellence of the Italian American community; his
artistic achievements and unwavering commitment to service continue to
uplift and inspire audiences and aspiring artists across New York State
and the Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Christopher Macchio upon the occasion of his designation as the
2025 Italian American of the Year by the New York Conference of Italian
American Legislators, commending his extraordinary contributions to the
arts and public life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Christopher Macchio.
