Senate Resolution No. 1042
BY: Senator RHOADS
HONORING Lucas Azan upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2025 Citizenship
Advancement Award
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people, within this great Empire State, who
have made strong contributions to their communities and serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lucas Azan, upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2025 Citizenship Advancement Award, to be recognized at a senior
scholarship ceremony at Island Trees High School on Tuesday, June 3,
2025; and
WHEREAS, Lucas Azan, committed to hard work, has achieved excellence
in academics, community service, and extracurricular endeavors, justly
earning this esteemed recognition; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Island Trees High School, Lucas Azan is a true
scholar who believes every opportunity can become a learning one;
academically, he has taken on the rigor of Advanced Placement (AP)
classes like it is his one and only job; and
WHEREAS, Lucas Azan's pensive and thoughtful demeanor has given
others the impression that he is shy; however, on the topics of
engineering, government, math, hockey, or martial arts, he will talk
endlessly; if there is a topic he does not know well, he will research
it to prepare for a later conversation; and
WHEREAS, Lucas Azan has excelled in all his subjects, putting extra
work into the ones that were more challenging; although math and science
are what he favors, he is really an "every-subject kid"; and
WHEREAS, There are possibly three good reasons for Lucas Azan's
academic success: He works extremely hard for the knowledge, not the
grade; he does not accept average from himself because he sees the
correlation between hard work now and success later; and he turned his
challenge of ADHD into a superpower that made him channel the
stimulation in his brain to gain more knowledge; and
WHEREAS, Lucas Azan participates in activities that are not typical;
there are not many blackbelt-referee-outreach mentors who want to work
at a camp with kids in the hot summer; an admirable quality he has is
not feeling the need to do what is popular and still stands out among
his peers; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
respected scholar and distinguished member of his community now stands
honorably with just pride in his accomplishments and in eager
anticipation of all his future endeavors and limitless opportunities;
and
WHEREAS, It is of utmost importance to honor the youth of today, the
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lucas Azan upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2025 Citizenship Advancement Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Lucas Azan.
