CONGRATULATING Willard Streiff upon the occasion
of his retirement after 52 years of dedicated public
service to the Town of Floyd

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to recognize and honor
individuals whose steadfast commitment and longstanding service have
substantially contributed to the quality of life in their communities
and throughout the great State of New York; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
those individuals who have rendered extraordinary service to the public
in pursuit of the common good, exemplifying the highest standards of
civic engagement and responsibility; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Willard Streiff upon the occasion of his retirement,
effective December 31, 2024, after an extraordinary 52 years of
dedicated public service to the Town of Floyd; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of the Town of Floyd, Willard Streiff
began his career in public service in the early 1970s during the Nixon
administration, starting as a sanitation laborer; over the ensuing
decades, he served in numerous essential roles including highway worker,
water maintenance technician, school transportation provider, and
ultimately, Town Supervisor, a position he held with distinction for the
past 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Willard Streiff's knowledge of his hometown's
infrastructure, landscape, and people is unmatched, having been a
reliable presence during emergencies, including the historic blizzard of
1993, when he helped clear the way for emergency responders amid
dangerously deep snow; and

WHEREAS, Willard Streiff has witnessed and supported the evolution
of his community, including the growth of Floyd's Amish population,
whose contributions in trades such as carpentry and cabinet-making have
enriched the local economy and culture; and

WHEREAS, Known for his steady hand, tireless work ethic, and a
leadership style rooted in patience, empathy, and fairness, Willard
Streiff has provided guidance to his successor with characteristic
humility and wisdom, advising, "Get to know your people. Be patient. And
don't make snap decisions."; and

WHEREAS, Despite stepping away from his official duties, Willard
Streiff remains a valued member of the community, often called upon for
his expertise, and enjoys spending time with his family, including
visits to his daughter stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Las Vegas,
as well as camping trips to Sylvan Beach; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his remarkable career, Willard Streiff has
demonstrated a deep and abiding love for his community, earning the

respect, admiration, and gratitude of colleagues, residents, and local
leaders alike; and

WHEREAS, A public celebration honoring Willard Streiff's decades of
service will be held on May 22, 2025, at the Town of Floyd Office
Building, where residents will have the opportunity to express their
appreciation and congratulations to a man whose work has quietly but
profoundly touched countless lives; and

WHEREAS, Willard Streiff's legacy of quiet leadership, unwavering
dedication, and humble service stands as an enduring example of what it
means to serve one's community with integrity and heart; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Willard Streiff upon the occasion of his well-earned
retirement after 52 years of dedicated public service to the Town of
Floyd, and to extend to him its best wishes for continued health,
happiness, and fulfillment in all his future endeavors; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Willard Streiff.
