HONORING Superintendent Eric Byrne upon the
occasion of his retirement after eight years of
distinguished service to the Rye City School
District on June 5, 2025

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
those individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Superintendent Eric Byrne upon the occasion of his retirement after
eight years of distinguished service to Rye City School District on
Thursday, June 5, 2025; and

WHEREAS, For the past eight years, Eric Byrne rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Rye City School District; and

WHEREAS, Eric Rye has earned multiple degrees from Fordham
University, including a Bachelor of Arts in Natural Science, a Master of
Science in Teaching, and a Doctor of Education in Educational
Leadership, Administration, and Policy; and

WHEREAS, In 1994, Eric Rye began his impressive career in the field
of education as a high school science teacher; he later held the
positions of elementary school teacher and adjunct professor at Fordham
University; and

WHEREAS, Eric Rye's meaningful life of service in education
administration began in 1996 when he joined Community School District
Two as its district science coordinator of grades K-12, before proudly
working his way up to hold the respected positions of assistant
principal and principal of the same school district; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Eric Rye held the title of principal at Pound
Ridge Elementary School in Mt. Kisco, New York and at Roaring Brook
School of Chappaqua Central School District in Chappaqua, New York; this
beloved educator and leader assumed the role of assistant superintendent
for curriculum and instruction of the latter district in 2011-a position
which he held dutifully for six years; and

WHEREAS, Eric Rye, at the pinnacle of his impactful career, now
serves as the superintendent of schools for the Rye City School District
in Rye, New York, where he has worked unwaveringly toward the betterment
of the lives of all students and staff for eight years; and

WHEREAS, Some of Superintendent Eric Byrne's accomplishments at the
Rye City School District include working with community members to
revitalize and relaunch the Rye Fund for Education school foundation;
developing a $79.99 million capital bond proposal approved by community
voters; developing strong family and community relationships through
regular attendance at school, arts, and athletic events; conducting a
rigorous evaluation of special education programs focused on inclusivity

leading to significant change in offerings including Integrated
Co-Teaching, additional supports for students with language-based
learning disabilities, and a comprehensive life skills program; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, Superintendent Eric Byrne also acted
diligently to enhance means of communication between the school district
and families, evaluate emergency procedures, develop a comprehensive
hiring process for all professional positions, and foster the growth of
cultural arts experiences within the district, among many other notable
achievements; and

WHEREAS, Passionate about his work as superintendent, Eric Byrne has
become a member of related organizations, such as the Association for
Supervision and Curriculum Development, AASA The School Superintendents
Association, New York Council of School Superintendents, National
Superintendents Roundtable, and The Lower Hudson Council of School
Superintendents where he served as president from 2021-2023; and

WHEREAS, Trusted and respected for his admirable career in education
administration, Superintendent Eric Byrne has been asked to deliver
numerous presentations on a range of related topics for the New York
Council for School Superintendents, the Ohallo Education Conference, the
National Council of Teachers of English Annual Conference, the CoSN 2016
Annual Conference, and for the Association for the Advancement of
International Education; and

WHEREAS, In his capacity as superintendent, Eric Byrne served with
loyalty, honor and distinction; and

WHEREAS, In his official acts, Superintendent Eric Byrne was
governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of
human problems; and

WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Rye City School District,
Superintendent Eric Byrne earned the admiration, esteem and affection of
his colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Superintendent Eric Byrne upon the occasion of his retirement
after eight years of distinguished service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Eric Byrne.
