HONORING Shari McNamara Gerevics upon the occasion
of her induction into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame
on July 27, 2025

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Shari McNamara Gerevics upon the occasion of her induction into the Rome
Sports Hall of Fame, to be celebrated on July 27, 2025; and

WHEREAS, Few athletes in Rome's history have displayed the level of
dominance, discipline, and determination shown by Shari McNamara during
her remarkable high school and collegiate softball careers; and

WHEREAS, As a star pitcher for the Rome Catholic High School Girls
Softball Team, Shari McNamara Gerevics compiled an extraordinary record,
throwing 12 no-hitters-including four perfect games-over three varsity
seasons; she led her team to the Section III Championship in 2000 and
runner-up finishes in the two preceding years; and

WHEREAS, A threat at the plate as well, Shari McNamara Gerevics
posted outstanding batting averages of .463, .429, and .417 during her
high school career, earning Center State Conference All-Star honors in
each of her three seasons and being named League MVP and First-Team
All-State in her senior year; and

WHEREAS, A model scholar-athlete, Shari McNamara Gerevics also
received conference academic honors for three consecutive years,
demonstrating excellence in both athletics and academics; and

WHEREAS, Former Rome Catholic High Coach Perry Novak praised Shari
McNamara Gerevics as "the hardest-working, most outstanding softball
player I coached or saw in my 10 years at the varsity level," lauding
not only her skill but her brilliant mind, team spirit, and exceptional
sportsmanship; and

WHEREAS, Shari McNamara Gerevics continued to excel at the
collegiate level, competing for the Rochester Institute of Technology
(RIT), where she was twice named Empire 8 Player of the Year and left an
indelible mark on the program by setting numerous school records,
including most career wins (55), shutouts (22), and strikeouts (515);
and

WHEREAS, Alongside her athletic achievements, Shari McNamara
Gerevics earned degrees in electrical engineering and imaging science,
exemplifying the qualities of a true student-athlete dedicated to
personal and academic growth; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of her extraordinary collegiate career, RIT
inducted Shari McNamara Gerevics into its Sports Hall of Fame in 2013,
cementing her legacy as one of the institution's greatest athletes; and

WHEREAS, Shari McNamara Gerevics stands as an inspiring role model
for young athletes, exemplifying what can be achieved through hard work,
integrity, and perseverance, and her induction into the Rome Sports Hall
of Fame is a fitting tribute to her contributions to athletics and to
the Rome community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Shari McNamara Gerevics upon the occasion of her induction into
the Rome Sports Hall of Fame on July 27, 2025, and to commend her for
her athletic excellence, academic achievements, and enduring impact; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Shari McNamara Gerevics.
