Senate Resolution No. 1256

MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
May 20, 2026, as Court Clerks Day in the State of
New York
WHEREAS, The Legislative Body recognizes and honors the critical
contributions of those who serve in the New York State court system; and
WHEREAS, Among these indispensable professionals are the Court
Clerks, whose diligent service, attention to detail, and deep
institutional knowledge uphold the integrity and functionality of the
judicial process across the state; and
WHEREAS, The more than 1,500 Court Clerks employed in courts
throughout New York State serve as the official record keepers of
courtroom proceedings, ensuring that legal documentation is accurate,
timely, and in compliance with established legal protocols; and
WHEREAS, Court Clerks perform a wide array of complex and essential
duties, including managing dockets, maintaining case files,
administering oaths, reviewing and processing legal documents,
coordinating court calendars, and assisting judges and attorneys in the
administration of justice; and
WHEREAS, Court Clerks often operate in a paralegal or quasi-judicial
capacity, requiring them to interpret legal documents and procedures in
accordance with applicable statutes, rules of court, administrative
regulations, and judicial orders; and
WHEREAS, In addition to their legal and procedural responsibilities,
Court Clerks frequently supervise courtroom staff, serve as liaisons to
attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and members of the public, and play
a crucial role in upholding public confidence in the judiciary; and
WHEREAS, The professionalism, discretion, and unwavering commitment
of Court Clerks ensure that court operations proceed efficiently,
fairly, and transparently, even under challenging and high-pressure
circumstances; and
WHEREAS, Their contributions are foundational to the justice system
and essential to the protection of individual rights and the rule of law
in our democracy; and
WHEREAS, Recognizing the service of Court Clerks is a meaningful way
to acknowledge the often-unseen work that makes justice possible in
communities large and small across the State of New York; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim May 20, 2026, as Court
Clerks Day in the State of New York, in recognition and appreciation of
their vital role in the court system; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
