Senate Resolution No. 1265

COMMENDING Andrew G. Stine posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Andrew G.
Stine posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; he will be recognized at the Saratoga County
"Honor our Deceased Veterans Ceremony" on Tuesday, September 16, 2025,
in Ballston Spa, New York; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Andrew G. Stine entered the U.S. Army on March 4, 1943,
serving as a Demolition Tech with the 1884th Engineer Aviation Battalion
with whom he served in the Ryukyus Campaign which included the Battle of
Okinawa during World War II; and

WHEREAS, This brave veteran was tasked with the important and
dangerous duty of repairing airfields in remote or hostile areas
throughout the Western Pacific; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service during World War II, Andrew G.
Stine was awarded the Good Conduct Medal with Clasp, the Asiatic-Pacific
Campaign Medal with Two Service Stars, the American Campaign Medal, and
the WWII Victory Medal; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on January 28,
1946, Andrew G. Stine re-enlisted into the U.S. Army on February 21,
1947, with the Army Corps of Engineers where he served as a Surveyor
with the 817th Engineer Aviation Battalion; he had his final discharge
on February 20, 1950; and

WHEREAS, A true family man, Andrew G. Stine and his beloved wife,
Ethel, were the proud parents of three beloved children and cherished 50
marvelous years of marriage; and

WHEREAS, Andrew G. Stine was born to parents Albert and Mildred on
June 22, 1923, in Saratoga Springs, New York; he graduated from White
Plains High School in 1941, and attended New York University (NYU)
before entering the U.S. Army; he also possessed a bachelor's degree
from Skidmore College; and

WHEREAS, This dedicated and hardworking veteran, Andrew G. Stine,
worked as a land surveyor for 50 years; he also worked for The National
Park Services for 10 years and retired after eight years with the
Vermont Highway and Human Services Department; and

WHEREAS, Andrew G. Stine died on July 4, 2019, at the age of 76; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Andrew G. Stine demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended,
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State, and their
Nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Andrew G. Stine posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Andrew G. Stine.
