Senate Resolution No. 1276

MOURNING the death of Fred A. Sprado,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Fred A. Sprado of Ossining, New York, died on June 20,
2025, at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, Born on June 8, 1935, in the Bronx, New York, to August and
Elfrieda (Hartwig) Sprado, Fred A. Sprado grew up in a close-knit family
in Yonkers, New York, and graduated from Gorton High School in 1953; and

WHEREAS, In April 1958, Fred A. Sprado entered the United States
Army, serving with honor and distinction as part of the Korean Military
Advisory Group; and

WHEREAS, On September 12, 1964, Fred A. Sprado married Geraldine
Madden at St. Peter's Church in Yonkers, New York, and together they
raised three children, Valarie, Matthew, and Eileen; and

WHEREAS, Fred A. Sprado had a long and dedicated career as a lineman
with the telephone company, NYNEX, from which he retired in 1998; and

WHEREAS, A man of generosity, humor, and song, Fred A. Sprado was
beloved as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend; his quick
wit, love of music, and devotion to family enriched all who knew him;
and

WHEREAS, Fred A. Sprado was a member of the German American Club in
Peekskill, New York, an avid dart player, and a loyal Mets, Giants, and
Rangers fan; during his later years, he was a resident of Atria on the
Hudson in Ossining, New York, where he was a proud member of the Atria
Songbirds; and

WHEREAS, Fred A. Sprado is survived by his three loving children:
Valarie (Raymond), Matthew (Susan), and Eileen (Ronald); five cherished
grandchildren: Brennen, Emma, Allison, Jarett, and Leah; beloved nieces
and nephews; and many dear friends; and

WHEREAS, Fred A. Sprado was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine, and
his siblings, Elfrieda, Hank, and Karl; he leaves behind a legacy of
compassion, humor, and love which will long endure the passage of time
and serve as a comforting memory to all he served and befriended; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Fred A. Sprado, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Fred A. Sprado.
