COMMENDING Michael J. Booth Sr. posthumously upon
the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Michael J.
Booth Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Booth Sr. is being honored by the Saratoga
County Honor a Veteran Committee during their Honor a Veterans Ceremony;
and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Booth Sr. was born on March 3, 1962, in
Cambridge, New York, to Charles and Joan Booth, and received his
education from Schuylerville Central Schools; and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Booth Sr. entered the United States Air Force on
July 7, 1981; and

WHEREAS, During his time in the United States Air Force, Michael J.
Booth Sr. served as a Law Enforcement Specialist and was stationed at
Ramstein AB in Germany and Goodfellow AB in Texas; and

WHEREAS, For his courageous service, Michael J. Booth Sr. was
awarded the Outstanding Unit Award, the Good Conduct Medal, and the
Overseas Ribbon; and

WHEREAS, After four years of brave service to his Nation, Michael J.
Booth Sr. was discharged on July 6, 1985, at the rank of Senior Airman;
and

WHEREAS, In addition to his career in the United States Air Force,
Michael J. Booth Sr. was employed by Agway and AmeriGas before starting
his own oil company, Booth Oil; and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Booth Sr. was a proud member of several local
organizations, including the Greenwich Elks BPOE No. 2223, in which he
was elected Exalted Ruler twice, the American Legion post No. 515, and
the Eagles Club in Saratoga Springs, New York; and

WHEREAS, With a desire to serve his local community, Michael J.
Booth Sr. had been a member and former president of the Schuylerville
Central School District Board of Education, a member of the Quaker
Springs Fire Department, and a member of the Board of Fire
Commissioners; and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Booth Sr. shared his life with his beloved wife,
Kelly, for 33 years, and together they had the pleasure of raising three
sons, Michael Jr., Stephen, and Nathan; and

WHEREAS, Michael J. Booth Sr. died on Thursday, September 19, 2019;
and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Michael J. Booth Sr. demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended,
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Michael J. Booth Sr. posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Michael J. Booth Sr.
