HONORING Jerry Fiorini upon the occasion of his
retirement after 45 years of distinguished service
to the Oneida County Board of Legislators

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those esteemed individuals who have rendered exemplary
service to their communities and to the people of the State of New York,
devoting their time, talents, and energies to the common good; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, this Legislative Body is justly
proud to honor Jerry Fiorini upon the occasion of his retirement from
the Oneida County Board of Legislators after 45 years of dedicated and
distinguished service; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his extraordinary tenure on the Oneida County
Board of Legislators, Jerry Fiorini served on nearly every committee and
chaired several, including the influential Ways & Means Committee; and

WHEREAS, In 1996, Jerry Fiorini was elected by his colleagues to
serve as Chairman of the Board, a position he held with distinction and
is believed to be the longest-serving Board Chair in New York State
history; and

WHEREAS, A visionary and steadfast advocate for economic
development, Jerry Fiorini played a key role in securing the transfer of
the County Airport from Oriskany to Griffiss, contributing to
revitalization and growth at both sites; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Fiorini was instrumental in the development of the
Airframe and Powerplant program at Mohawk Valley Community College, and
he championed major regional initiatives, including the securitization
of the nanotechnology site in Marcy, New York, and the expansion of the
Chobani campus in Rome, New York; and

WHEREAS, A resolute supporter of fiscal responsibility, Jerry
Fiorini was a leading voice for tax stability, contributing to an
unprecedented 13 consecutive years without a county tax increase; he
further advocated for public libraries, public safety programs, and his
beloved hometown, the City of Rome; and

WHEREAS, Beyond public office, Jerry Fiorini devoted 18 years to
coaching baseball and football at Rome Catholic and later served as head
baseball coach at New York Mills, amassing more than 300 victories
throughout his coaching career; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of his achievements as both an athlete and
coach, Jerry Fiorini was inducted into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame in
2006; he additionally supported youth sports through his work
maintaining the Delutis baseball fields at Griffiss and as a member of
the Rome Baseball Association Board of Directors; and

WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Rome, New York, Jerry Fiorini is
united in marriage with his wife, Frances; together they are the proud

parents of two children, the loving grandparents of six grandchildren,
and great-grandparents of five great-grandchildren, with another on the
way; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Jerry Fiorini has sought to uplift his
community and leave a legacy of public service and civic pride that will
inspire future generations; and

WHEREAS, In 2025, after 45 years of outstanding dedication to the
people of Oneida County, Jerry Fiorini retired from the Oneida County
Board of Legislators; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jerry Fiorini upon the occasion of his retirement, recognizing his
exemplary service, leadership, and lasting contributions to his
community and to the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jerry Fiorini.
