CONGRATULATING Ian VanWagner upon the occasion of
breaking the Section X Basketball all-time scoring
record

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor outstanding athletic achievements which bring distinction to local
communities and serve as an inspiration to young people throughout New
York State; and

WHEREAS, Ian VanWagner, a junior at Potsdam Central School, has
distinguished himself through extraordinary dedication, talent, and
perseverance by breaking the Section X Basketball all-time scoring
record; and

WHEREAS, On Friday, January 23, 2026, Ian VanWagner recorded a
remarkable performance, scoring 42 points in a victory over
Brushton-Moira, thereby surpassing the longstanding Section X scoring
record of 2,605 career points, a mark that had stood for nearly three
decades; and

WHEREAS, With this achievement, Ian VanWagner reached a career total
of 2,606 points, placing him atop the Section X basketball scoring list
and among the most prolific scorers in New York State high school
basketball history; and

WHEREAS, Already the all-time leading scorer in Potsdam Central
School history, Ian VanWagner has consistently elevated his team and
program through exceptional work ethic, leadership, and commitment to
excellence; and

WHEREAS, Ian VanWagner's basketball journey reflects years of
disciplined preparation, beginning at a very young age and continuing
through his participation in competitive youth leagues, regional and
national AAU programs, and varsity competition beginning in seventh
grade, a rare and noteworthy accomplishment; and

WHEREAS, His dedication to the sport has been matched by his growth
as a leader and complete player, excelling as both a point guard and
shooting guard, contributing on both ends of the court, and earning the
respect of teammates, coaches, and opponents alike; and

WHEREAS, Ian VanWagner has played a pivotal role in advancing the
success of the Potsdam Central basketball program, including
contributing to a Sectional Championship victory and maintaining a
team-first approach throughout his historic career; and

WHEREAS, The achievements of Ian VanWagner reflect great credit upon
himself, his family, his coaches, Potsdam Central School, and the
greater North Country community; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting that this Legislative Body pause to
acknowledge a young athlete whose accomplishments exemplify

determination, sportsmanship, and excellence, and whose legacy will long
be remembered in Section X basketball history; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Ian VanWagner upon the occasion of breaking the Section X
Basketball all-time scoring record, and to commend him for his
outstanding athletic achievement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ian VanWagner.
