HONORING Sheryl and Joseph Cohen upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the Young
Israel of Plainview Community Leadership Award for
Outstanding Service to the Community

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Sheryl and Joseph Cohen have given not only their time and
energies, but also their competence, intelligence, and leadership, and
consequently have been designated for this special honor; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sheryl and
Joseph Cohen upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Young Israel of Plainview Community Leadership Award for Outstanding
Service to the Community to be celebrated on Sunday, March 22, 2026; and

WHEREAS, Sheryl and Joseph Cohen have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their service, a period of
constructive involvement, Sheryl and Joseph Cohen have stood constant in
dignity, good grace, and humor; and

WHEREAS, In 1999, Sheryl and Joseph Cohen finished their Pediatric
residencies at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and moved to Plainview,
New York, where they became members of Young Israel; and

WHEREAS, Sheryl Cohen became involved with the Shul Sisterhood
shortly after moving; over the years, she served on the welcoming
committee, chaired the Youth Committee and has served as the Treasurer
and the President; and

WHEREAS, Together, Sheryl and Joseph Cohen raised their four
children Samuel, Adena, Rebecca and Rachel in Plainview, all of whom
attended the HANC Plainview campus through 6th grade; and

WHEREAS, At HANC Plainview, Sheryl served in various capacities with
the PTA including Treasurer and PTA President; currently she is serving
as the Recording Secretary for the Shul Board and volunteers as a
greeter on Shabbat; and

WHEREAS, Joe Cohen began to volunteer at HANC in 2003 when Samuel
began attending; Joe was very active, welcoming new families into the
shul and making sure new families were invited to meals and prospective
families had a place to stay when visiting Plainview; and

WHEREAS, More recently, Joe Cohen has become a weekday gabbai in
their shul and can sometimes be found repairing Siddurim and Chumashim
in need; and

WHEREAS, Sheryl and Joeseph Cohen love to spend time with their
family, travel, go hiking, skiing, and enjoy other outdoor activities;
and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by
individuals for the benefit of others which Sheryl and Joseph Cohen have
displayed throughout their life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sheryl and Joseph Cohen upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Young Israel of Plainview Community Leadership Award
for Outstanding Service to the Community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sheryl and Joseph Cohen.
