Senate Resolution No. 1829

COMMENDING Cornell Morris upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Cornell
Morris upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty
Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York
State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
Resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Cornell Morris served in the United States Army for 25
years where he was a revered Military Intelligence Officer; he retired
from service having achieved the esteemed rank of Lieutenant Colonel;
and

WHEREAS, Cornell Morris served in key leadership roles including
Battalion S-2 for the United Nations Command Security Force in the Joint
Security Area (JSA) of the Republic of Korea; Company A, 102nd Military
Intelligence Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division; Brigade S-2, 197th
Infantry Brigade (Mechanized) during Operations Desert Shield and Desert
Storm; and assignments with the 513th Military Intelligence Brigade and
U.S. Army Forces Command; and

WHEREAS, With his sound judgment, steadfast leadership, and an
unwavering dedication to mission and personnel, Cornell Morris,
following the attacks of September 11, 2001, in support of the Global
War on Terror, deployed in combat with Third Army in support of
Operations Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, and Iraqi Freedom; he also
answered the call at home, serving with Task Force Katrina/Rita to
assist communities devastated by natural disasters; and

WHEREAS, As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Cornell Morris has
devoted his professional life to supporting military members, veterans,
and their families; he works unremittingly at a community-based veteran
center providing mentorship, training, and leadership while delivering
evidence-based psychotherapy and addiction counseling to those
navigating the invisible wounds of military service; and

WHEREAS, With experience in hospice and palliative care, substance
abuse and DUI counseling, parenting education, domestic violence
intervention, and anger management, this commendable veteran, Cornell
Morris, has worked to ensure that veterans are seen, valued, and

supported, reinforcing the connection between military service and the
communities it protects; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who risked their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Cornell Morris demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended,
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State, and their
Nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Cornell Morris upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Cornell Morris.
