CONGRATULATING the Union College Women's
Basketball Team and Head Coach Katie Marcella upon
the occasion of capturing the 2026 Liberty League
Women's Basketball Championship on March 1, 2026

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate the Union College Women's Basketball Team and Head Coach
Katie Marcella upon the occasion of capturing the 2026 Liberty League
Women's Basketball Championship; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of their excited fans, the
Dutchmen cruised to an 81-70 victory to capture the Championship at the
Viniar Athletic Center in Schenectady, New York; and

WHEREAS, This monumental win lifted the Union College Women's
Basketball Team to its first league championship since 2004, and its
second conference title in program history; and

WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of garnet and white,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported the Dutchmen throughout their journey as they ended their
season with an impressive 22-6 overall record; and

WHEREAS, After winning the Championship, the Union College Women's
Basketball Team received an automatic bid to compete in the NCAA
Division III Championships on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Bates College in
Lewiston, Maine; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as basketball, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Katie Marcella and her expert
coaching staff worked hard to hone the skills of this championship team,
teaching these outstanding athletes lessons which will prove invaluable
both on and off the court; and

WHEREAS, In addition to exceptional team play between the lines, the
Union College Women's Basketball Team excelled in the classroom
garnering a collective 3.44 grade point average; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Katie Marcella, Assistant Coaches Richard
Ziegler, Mike Smith, Rachel Colfer and Amy Loya and all the outstanding
athletes on the Union College Women's Basketball Team have clearly
utilized dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a lasting
contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their
school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Union College Women's Basketball Team:

Julia Finney, Ryanne Gulbin, Allie Grove, Anna O'Keefe, Kylee Shah, Kate
Peek, Grace Ceseretti, Olivia Cunningham, Morgan Schultz, Casey Weeren,
Ally Burke, Aiko Bastiaens, Jelena Perovic, Grace Ardito, Hazel Hoog,
Grace Arcoleo, Ryley Tate-Padian, Aiden Gill; Head Coach Katie Marcella;
and Assistant Coaches: Richard Ziegler, Mike Smith, Rachel Colfer and
Amy Loya upon the occasion of capturing the 2026 Liberty League Women's
Basketball Championship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Union College Women's Basketball Team,
Head Coach Katie Marcella, the aforementioned Assistant Coaches, and
Director of Athletics; Jim McLaughlin.
