COMMEMORATING Dominican and Dominican American
Mother's Day

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those cultural observances which celebrate the strength,
resilience, and enduring contributions of mothers whose love and
leadership serve as the foundation of families and communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate Dominican and Dominican American Mother's Day, observed
annually on the last Sunday in May, and in 2026, to be observed on May
31st; and

WHEREAS, Dominican Mother's Day is a cherished cultural tradition in
the Dominican Republic and throughout the diaspora, honoring mothers,
grandmothers, and maternal figures whose guidance, sacrifice, and
devotion shape generations and strengthen the social fabric of their
communities; and

WHEREAS, The Dominican and Dominican-American community represents a
vibrant and integral part of the State of New York, particularly within
New York City, contributing richly to the cultural, economic, and civic
life of our State; and

WHEREAS, Dominican and Dominican-American mothers have played a
vital role in nurturing families, preserving cultural heritage, and
instilling values of perseverance, faith, and unity while often serving
as pillars of strength within their households and communities; and

WHEREAS, This observance provides an opportunity to reflect upon and
celebrate the immeasurable contributions of these women whose daily acts
of love, resilience, and leadership uplift not only their families but
also society as a whole; and

WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper that this Legislative Body pause
in its deliberations to honor Dominican and Dominican-American mothers
for their enduring impact and to recognize the significance of this
meaningful cultural celebration; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate Dominican and Dominican American Mother's Day, observed
annually on the last Sunday in May, and to extend heartfelt appreciation
to all mothers whose strength, compassion, and dedication continue to
inspire and uplift generations; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to representatives of the Dominican and Dominican-American
community as a token of the esteem in which they are held.
