COMMEMORATING the 80th Anniversary of the Waterloo
Memorial Post No. 6433 of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Waterloo Memorial Post No. 6433
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to be celebrated with a special Open
House and Luncheon event at the Post building in Waterloo, New York, on
Saturday, June 6, 2026; and
WHEREAS, On June 6,1946, 101 local United States veterans organized
the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6433 under the leadership of
Vincent 0. White; at its inception, the Post members rented rooms on
Main Street in Waterloo; and
WHEREAS, On January 8,1947, the Post members were joined by their
auxiliary; the members voted to purchase the home of Navy Commander
George Cook Sweet; unfortunately, shortly after renovation commenced,
the home was destroyed by fire; in the 1950s, they rebuilt and settled
into the Post they utilize today; and
WHEREAS, Several other veterans groups derived from the Waterloo
Memorial Post, including the Marine Corps League No. 468, Seneca Chief's
Disabled American Veterans No. 197, Gold Star Mothers, Sampson Veterans,
Finger Lakes Chapter 1 Korean Wars Veterans, and Men's Auxiliary;
additionally, a Past State Commander and Past State President originated
from the Post; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, the Waterloo Memorial Post has hosted
VFW state bowling tournaments, Red Cross blood drives, Memorial Day
events, testimonial dinners, Past Presidents & Commanders Dinners,
funeral luncheons, wedding receptions, and driver safety courses; the
Color Guard marched across New York State and holds the title of State
Guard for the VFW; and
WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of
certain altruistic organizations it wishes to acknowledge for their
philanthropic and community-oriented contributions to our society which
enhance the basic humanity among all the citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proudly moved to commemorate and
commend the members of the Waterloo Memorial Post No. 6433, past and
present, who have labored so conscientiously to secure and improve the
quality of life for the community they serve; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Waterloo Memorial Post No. 6433
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Waterloo Memorial Post No. 6433 of the Veterans of
Foreign Wars.
