COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the
Queensbury Hotel

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commemorate historic landmarks within the State of New York that
contribute to the cultural richness, educational advancement, and
tourism economy of the region; and

WHEREAS, Located in Glens Falls, New York, the Queensbury Hotel is a
landmark of 100 years of hospitality and a monument to civic pride for
the Glens Falls area and the North Country of New York; and

WHEREAS, On March 6, 1924, at the Glens Falls Insurance Company, 100
businessmen met and unanimously voted to organize a Glens Falls Hotel
Corporation and to build a modern hotel; they believed that Glens Falls
needed modern accommodations to serve a public that was increasingly
traveling by car, to provide hospitality to traveling businesspeople,
and to offer a gathering place for families, civic organizations, social
groups, and businesses; construction commenced later that year; and

WHEREAS, On May 7, 1926, the Queensbury Hotel was officially opened;
the American Hotel Corporation, the New York City-based operator of
prestigious hotels in Albany, Schenectady, Syracuse, Rochester, and
other cities throughout the country, was engaged to manage the Hotel;
and

WHEREAS, Through the years, the Queensbury Hotel grew in size and
evolved in style, character, and services, a reflection of changing
public tastes, visitor expectations, and competitive challenges; the
present owner, Ed Moore, purchased the Hotel in 2016 and started an
unprecedented overhaul of the property, including renovating the lobby,
bar, restaurants, and guest rooms, making major infrastructure
improvements, and adding a new ballroom and modern guest amenities; and

WHEREAS, The Queensbury Hotel was restored to its rightful place as
the headquarters of holiday and special family events and hometown
celebrations, a premiere destination for travelers, and the first choice
for important local community and civic gatherings; the 100th
Anniversary of the Hotel celebrates its role in the rich history of New
York State; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the century, the Queensbury Hotel has hosted
politicians, including future presidents (Ronald Reagan) and
presidential aspirants (former Governors Nelson Rockefeller and George
Pataki), and entertainers, such as Billy Joel, Bob Hope, Ozzy Osbourne,
Bob Dylan, and Phish; and

WHEREAS, Ed Moore's revitalization of the Queensbury Hotel has been
integral to the revival of Downtown Glens Falls; once again, the Hotel
is the thriving, welcoming hub of community life thanks to the vision,
courage, and generosity of Ed Moore, his family, and his Spruce
Hospitality team; and

WHEREAS, The Queensbury Hotel was designated as a member of Historic
Hotels of America, recognized for its blend of historic charm and modern
amenities; it is praised for exceptional guest service, the quality of
its restaurants, and the charming location its founders chose 100 years
ago, the center of Downtown Glens Falls overlooking City Park which is
beautiful in every season; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Queensbury Hotel and to
celebrate its lasting contributions to public history, conservation, and
tourism in the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Queensbury Hotel.
