MOURNING the death of Richard Lynn, distinguished
United States Navy veteran, respected educator, and
devoted husband, father, and grandfather

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay
tribute to those eminent individuals whose lives of service,
scholarship, and compassion have enriched their families, communities,
and the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lynn, a former resident of Millwood, New York,
passed away on March 22, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by the love
of his devoted wife of 66 years, Helen Lynn; and

WHEREAS, Born on August 25, 1929, in Mount Vernon, New York, Richard
Lynn was the son of Samuel and Sylvia Lynn, who instilled in him the
values of education, integrity, and service, and the beloved brother of
Norman Lynn; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lynn's early life in Mount Vernon laid the
foundation for a lifetime of intellectual achievement, public
engagement, and deep commitment to family and community; and

WHEREAS, In his youth, Richard Lynn honorably served in the United
States Navy, demonstrating patriotism, discipline, and a commitment to
his country; and

WHEREAS, Following his military service, Richard Lynn pursued higher
education at Columbia University and Harvard University, earning
advanced degrees that reflected his lifelong dedication to learning and
excellence; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lynn built a distinguished career in finance and
academia, ultimately serving for many years as Chair of the Department
of Finance at Pace University, where he was held in high regard by
colleagues and affectionately known as "Dick"; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his professional accomplishments, Richard
Lynn was deeply engaged in civic life and social advocacy, including
active participation in the "No Nukes" movement, reflecting his
commitment to peace and global responsibility; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Richard Lynn demonstrated a generous
spirit, supporting numerous charitable causes and contributing
meaningfully to the well-being of others; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lynn shared a remarkable and enduring 66-year
marriage with his beloved wife, Helen Lynn, and together they built a
life grounded in love, companionship, and shared purpose; and

WHEREAS, Richard and Helen Lynn found joy in bicycle travel,
friendships, and shared experiences, embracing life with curiosity and
appreciation; and

WHEREAS, An avid photographer, Richard Lynn maintained a darkroom in
his Millwood home, capturing moments of beauty and preserving memories
through his artistic eye; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lynn is survived by his loving wife, Helen Lynn;
his children, Stephanie Lynn and her husband Mark Kleiman, Barry Lynn
and his wife Rachel, David Lynn and his wife Erin, and Peter Lynn; and
his nine cherished grandchildren, Ben, Charlotte, Sol, Paul, Icrat,
Amir, Yair, Efrat, Yael, Liam, and Aubrey; and

WHEREAS, He will be remembered as a man of intellect, warmth,
curiosity, and compassion, whose blue eyes and bright spirit brought
comfort and joy to all who knew him; and

WHEREAS, Richard Lynn's legacy is carried forward in the lives of
his family, his students, his colleagues, and the many individuals
touched by his generosity, activism, and devotion to a better world; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Richard Lynn represents a profound loss to
his family, friends, former colleagues, and all who were inspired by his
life of purpose and principle; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Richard Lynn, recognizing with deep appreciation his
contributions to education, public life, and civic engagement, and
extending heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Richard Lynn.
